Weird complication...

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days post op, and I am having a weird complication.

Before the surgery, I had perfect vision. Now, I am struggling to read at all. My vision is blurry & I can't seem to focus on anything. Words are blurry and objects seem to have "fuzz" around them.

Has anyone else experienced this complication?

Could be your blood sugar. I would call my PCP and gets some lab drawn or if you know someone that has a glucometer at home just check your sugar. Just a thought. Hope you feel better soon. :)

Yeah, my first symptom of diabetes was fuzzy vision, so I second the checking of your blood sugar. Kind of odd that it would coincide with your surgery though.

I also have noticed blurry vision. As part of my surgery workup I found out that I was diabetic with a fasting serum glucose level of 152. I emailed Dr. Jossart about it (he did my surgery 1 week ago) and he said not to worry about it because my blood sugar should go back into the normal range soon after surgery and there was no need for medication at this time. The lens of the eye swell when the blood sugars are elevated. They return to normal when the blood sugars are normal. I am going to check in with my PCP anyway just to keep a handle on it.

I agree that checking with your doctor is a good idea. I am not diabetic but post op I did have problems with focusing until about 3 weeks out. I didn't notice the vision but maybe it is a side effect of the anesthic

I do remember my surgeon saying that blood sugar can soar for a few days post-surgery, as a natural reaction to what the body has just been through.

In fact, mine did go up quite a bit for several days, and then, within a week or so, hit new lows.

So, if it is blood sugar, it might not be a long-term thing.

I had this happen the first few days after surgery and by day 6 I was perfectly normal again. For me it is a reaction to general anesthesia. I've had it happen before. So I wasn't concerned about it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
