I'm 3 days post op, and if I'm going to be truthful, it's been rough. I also had my gall bladder out as I had a lot of gall stones. It's been tough getting my liquids in, I'm lucky if I drink 10 oz. day. I feel a pain/pressure in my chest. However, every day I'm feeling better, and I'm optimistic that today will be the day that I'll get in all my liquids.< /p>

I wanted to be truthful because I didn't give post-op pain a second thought, I thought I would be out and about in no time. I was only allowed 1 night in the hospital, and I wish I had 2 to help with the pain. Be sure to discuss this with your surgeon.

The good news, I'm down 6 pounds post-op, plus 14 pounds on my pre-op diet, so a total of -21 lbs!

Thank you for your candor. As someone who is a couple weeks away from surgery I want to hear everyone's experiences. Post-op issues are what I am concerned about too, so by relating your experience you help me learn. It is greatly appreciated.

i hope you find some comfort and can start enjoying your new life soon! i think you would have pain with any kind of complicated surgery, whether it's WLS or another type. people get caught up in thinking about their skinny days ahead and forget that it's going to be a hard road to get there.... i know i'm definitely guilty of that. but this is a BIG DEAL! someone is going inside you and chopping off the largest portion of one of your major organs! but you WILL HEAL and it will all be worth it. i don't want you to start regretting your decision... i'm rooting for you... and everyone else on here! you can do this!

I'm feeling much better now, 5 days post-op. Day 4 was the turning point for me I think. I'm tolerating the full liquid diet very well, and the Protein is giving me more energy. I'm pretty much pain free now, although I still experience some discomfort when swallowing - It may be my new stomach telling me I'm full.

Thank you all for your support and encourgement.

Sorry to hear your experience. Mine has been the exact opposite - no gall bladder removal but apparently I did have a hiatal hernia repaired. My surgery was Wed and had some minor pain initially but overall, I am shocked with the recovery. I was home by Thurs lunchtime and I didnt force myself on the liquids until yesterday (Friday). I have had no issues with pain - occasionally I do get a gas bubble with my drink but it seems to subside right away. I honestly thought to myself yesterday - did this guy really cut my stomach or did he fib to me?

One thing I did was start the GasX melting strips before I left the hospital and a lot of people had said it really helped with recovery. It wont help for the gas they pump in your abdomen during surgery but should for your drinking once home. I really hope things turn around for you.

I'm so glad that you are starting to feel better. I had mine on June 15th and I understand about you saying that it is rough. I've had surgeries before so I kind of had an idea about what it would be like, but it really is very different from other surgeries. Everyday it gets better. I think I really began to feel "human again" about day 8 or so. I still have a lot of soreness on my left side. Hmmmmm......... I guess that's normal??

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
