I was sleeping on my right side within 2 days. But I would but a pillow tucked under by stomach for support. Everyone is different. See how your comfort zone is.

I've only taken naps on my side b/c I'm afraid one of my kids will hit my port at night.....one of them always ends up in bed with us. The first time was 2 days after surgery and like Sharon, I used a pillow for support. Today, 6 days post-op, I slept on my left side which is where my port is located.....again a pillow for support. It was great!!! :biggrin1:

it took me about 5 months (I'm at 6 now) but i've grown used to sleeping on my back and other side - at first it bothered me a lot but now it's ok. Everyone is different, another friend of mine could sleep on her left side right away -go figure. b

I got myself one of those girdle deals...the ones that are like a tube top and go around your middle? YEah, I wore that for the first month or so since I'm an avid side sleeper and gravity was too much. It really helped.

I started sleeping on my side after about 5 days, using a pillow BEHIND me to help with support. However, I LOVE sleeping on my stomach and about a week and a half after surgery I tried sleeping on my stomach but it was still uncomfortable. Two weeks after surgery I could sleep on my stomach.

That's just how it was for me, though...

My advice is to just go with what you feel comfortable with, and have lots of pillows around for support.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
