Your story could be my very own. I ended up moving from lapbandtalk to verticalsleevetalk and getting a sleeve. Couldn't be happier.

BTW, according to Dr Aceves nurse, they do just as many band to sleeve revisions as they do sleeves...

When I decided I was going to do something about my weight a couple months ago I had no idea about the VSG procedure. I do not know anyone personally that has had it ...at least nobody has told me they had it. I was actually posting on the lapband talk website when the ads for the VSG procedure kept popping up and I got curious. After reading back and forth between the two sites and then thinking of the people that I know of with the lap band I was really excited about the VSG procedure. I was concerned with the cutting of the stomach but once I was explained the procedure and watched a couple of video's on them actually being done I was more at ease with the safety of the sleeve.

I was concerned with the band slipping and getting fills and being overfilled and on and on with the issues that can pop up with the band. It appears to me with the sleeve that once you get it and you recover it is a done deal as far as the complications. The band can be great then suddenly you get overfilled and your on a roller coaster figuring out how to get it back to being comfortable. Then you get sick and start vomitting and the band slips and you get all sorts of secondary issues.

I like the once and done finality of the VSG. I don't want to be wondering if and when the band may just turn around and kick my a$$.

I have had the VGB procedure done 5/3/2010 and I have not regreted it. The 1st 3 days after surgery were terrible but after that it has be great! My wife had the lap band originally in 1995 and lost alot of weight until it broke. She has since with with the Gastric Bypass and is now better again. I researched all the options and I decided that the VGB was the right choice for me. My Dr. agreed and so far it has been great. I have lost 68lbs to date. If you want to talk Email me at jamesrussell2@live.com and I will give you a phone number to call me in person. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
