Will I ever be able to enjoy a Pepsi again? Or should I just say goodbye and drink my fill now before surgery?:confused1:

I was sleeved April 5, 2010...I had a revision from the band that was put in December 29, 2008. With both the sleeve and the band soda makes me feel really full and bloated. My doctor says it's a no-no. Ironically, I collect Coca Cola and my entire kitchen is ALL Coke. I don't really have a desire for it anymore. I can take a couple sips of my husband's Coke Zero, then I remember and don't feel so good. Some cola junkies will wait until soda goes flat. I'd rather just have iced tea. :-)

I held off on drinking soda for several months, but now I indulge in them a couple times a week. With that being said, I did avoid them during my losing stage. Also, the first time I drank one it took all day to drink it because it was super fizzy. Now, I have zero issue drinking a soda here and there. My surgeon just advised that they are empty calories, and shouldn't be drank very often. Also, if it's caffeinated, it doesn't count towards my Fluid intake so I have to compensate with extra Clear Liquids.< /span>

My doctor say it's a no-no and I ask myself, after going through all this, why would I want to risk something the doctor advises against. He also advises against aspirin, I'll skip those too! :cursing:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
