Think I had my first tummy bug since VSG

Recommended Posts

I don't get sick often. We are very fortunate that our kids don't get sick often either. I've had a tummy bug several times in my adulthood. I think I had a tummy bug yesterday...my first "sickness" since my VSG. It was different for sure. I felt very weak, very nauseous, & just crappy. I couldn't eat without immediately feeling sick. I couldn't drink my Propel Water without feeling sick. Even my Vitamins made me sick. All I could do was lay down very still. Finally, by the end of the day, I was able to drink some G2 gatorade & sip some chicken noodle Soup. I finally felt better. And today I'm back to normal.

Guess I never thought a tummy bug would be so different post-op.

I'm pretty sure it was a virus of some sort. About midday, my son started having the same symptoms. Luckily, it's been a short lived virus.

I've had one stomach bug post-op, and it really is different than pre-op. I thought I had eaten something that didn't agree with me, but then the husband and kiddo got it as well.

I dry heaved quite a bit from the nausea. I'm one of those types that hates, absolutely hates to vomit, and avoid it at all costs. With this bug I had, vomiting was the only thing that made me feel better. It lasted about 2 days, and I kept lysoling and ousting the house to prevent it from spreading to us a couple times. It's inevitable that we'll all get it, but I wanted to make sure I only dealt with it once.

Glad you feel better.

I would wager that with a flu and VSG, hydration would be super, super, super important...

Agreed. I tried very hard yesterday to concentrate on fluids. But everything made me sick until late in the afternoon. I'm doing much better today & having no problems getting in my fluids.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
