stinky question

Recommended Posts

This is a little personal, but I have a question....Does anyone have excessive gas since surgery?? Since I was banded in January, it has really gotten worse. I chew gas tablets which seem to help but didn't know if this was related to the band. :paranoid

Immediately post op I had gas - of course - but nothing unusual since then.

It could be that your diet has changed and you're eating something now that your body isn't liking. Conversely, it could be that something you were eating in your pre-band life was keeping gas to a minimum.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Hello,

I know with my system when I eat something that's sugar free or carb friendly my stomach goes crazy. I found that I have no tolerance for splenda or sugar substitutes. See if anything contains these substitutes?

It could also be the milk in your Protein Shakes - I had terrible diahrea and gas on my Protein shakes until I remembered I almost never drank milk before surgery - now I chew one of the Lactaid tablets when I do a shake, and things are MUCH better.

I had serious gas - for MONTHS - after I had hernia repair surgery, then I had the LapBand surgery and it seems to have gone away.

Now when I had my hernia repair surgery they also repaired a hiatal type hernia, that resolved my gastric reflux - and severe heartburn. They took my stomach and wrapped it like a hotdog bun around my espoghus.

Not sure it that movement alone caused the gas, but it never was stinky, and I sure was C A R E F U L when I moved around cause sometimes I would not have ANY warning. Talk about bad!!

So, the one good thing about the lapband surgery so far for me is that it stopped the air exhaust problem I had!!! LOL

I find that if I don't eat every couple of hours like 3 at least, I get terrible gas build up and then POOF! MUSHROOM! I eat lunch at work at 12 noon, and if I wait until dinner to eat something (6 pm) I get such a stomach ache.

For whatever reason if someone doesn't eat after a while, they fill up with gas (I found this out when I was supposed to have an ultrasound and was told not to eat after dinner the night before... then the next day it was delayed for 6 hours and the tech said I was all gassy because of it), so maybe since we eat so much less after surgery our body just isn't used to being as empty as it is. I was very gassy after surgery, and for quite a while after that. I think I'm adapting a bit because I'm not as gassy as I was then.

I feel your pain. I swear I am a fartin' queen since surgery. I don't understand why. My husband cracks up because for me to toot in front of him takes alot. Now I consider it payback!

It's funny (peculiar funny, not ha ha funny!) but since I posted above - I've had gas like crazy! I'm on liquids because I had a fill - ya think those two things are related? After reading the above, I'm beginning to. Hmmmm.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
