HOw long till the SMELL

Recommended Posts

Around day 6 I started to actually WANT food. My stomach wasn't ready, but my brain was. I'm at day 18 and some days I want it and some days I don't. It will get better.

I kind of went back and forth with that. At about a week I was pretty okay with smells, but there were days that I would crave crazy foods like a taco or a hot dog, but then when I smelled the foods my family was eating I wanted to lose it. Good luck! Are you going to do support groups w/Dr. Cottams office. I am a part of those and would love to meet you!

I have a super snout now. I can smell EACH ingredient in a dish. Sometimes its bad; sometimes I can just ignore it. I'm 8 weeks out. I think I can smell it all because I can't eat it all. And really having no desire to eat it at all makes me want to hurl too.

I had a reall problem with smells for about 10 days........then I was okay. When I checked out of the hospital they removed my IV and I didnt' realize I was bleeding until I smelled it. BLOOD! I said "Les you can smell like a vampire", and then I said "Les, there are no vampires." :o)

Wow. I never experienced that. At least not yet. Right now for me the smell of food is like breathing in the scent of a lovely perfume. Don't particularly want to eat it, but I do like smelling it. May that feeling stay with me always!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
