Scared, might have done BAD!

Recommended Posts

I have had back problems for the last month since I gained weight. My surgery is on wed and I was told that I was not allowed to have nsaids because it would thin the blood. I took a SOMA last night and then five min later I realized that it might have aspirin. Sure enough I looked it up and it does. My surgery is on wed and I am scared that I am going to bleed now or that they might not do the surgery. Does anyone know if one pill could change my date? I will tell the doctor of course but I am so scared he is going to put my surgery off. HELP

I know this isn't very comforting, but I had to take an aspirin the night before my surgery. I even have a clotting disorder that slows my clotting time significantly. I have to be given Lovenox to prevent clots, and a drug called DDAVP to help me clot, it's very counterproductive in my mind, but it's what the oncologist requires for me to have surgery.

So, I'm not sure if he will change your surgery date due to one pill. Give them a call and make sure your date won't change.

It's interesting that we aren't supposed to take anything to thin the blood prior to surgery, but they gave me several heparin injections while I was in the hospital. I hope your doctor gives the OK for your surgery to go forward as planned.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
