April 2010 Sleevers!

Goodlife -

Can't figure out how any of those things is going to help me nutritionally....so I'm just kinda confused in general.

Try greek yogurt - it's a different taste but you might like it. It has ALOT of Protein - it's the one thing out of those you listed where you can get a significant amount of Protein. I'm hooked now, but it took awhile - I like Chobani and Oikos - lots of good flavors:)

I was sleeved 4/3/10 by Dr. Alvarez. The first few weeks were definitely tough but now that I am 5 weeks out life has really improved! Being able to eat a variety of foods (in small portions of course) makes me very happy. My doctor was very conservative as far as post-op diet and now I understand why. Slowly, but surely, I am able to introduce new foods. I am exercising more and have started to feel SO much better!

YAY FOR APRIL SLEEVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi I was sleeved on April 14th in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. I havent had any real problems , only the mental things. I can tell that my stomach has healed really good because I can sometimes eat a whole turkey sandwhich and sometimes only a half. I can only eat 5 oz tops before I feel strange.... I eat almost anything soft, but I chew very slow and good also before I swallow. I have learned alot about eating healthy:wink1:. I read all labels in the store. I measure my portions. I exercise daily:thumbup:. I walk atleast 2-3 miles. daily. or I may go swimming and do aquatics with the gals...LOl Ive lost 35 lbs and I feel fantastic... So much Energy and I really love myself for having the courage to get the sleeve. My skin looks radiant ! I get compliments all the time. my husband constantly wants me ;).. :lol0:

I am on top of the world today..I see my Dr next week for 6 week check-in and I can't wait. At surgery I was 289- Today I weighed myself and I am 255.5 Yeah.....

Today is 4 weeks out for me....my one month will be on the 28th.

I hit my goal of losing 20 lbs in the first month this morning for a total of 44 lbs lost since I started on this journey.

I'm still quite tired most days but my back is out and being in constant pain is just exhausting.

Other than that everything is going great and I'm loving my sleeve!

Hi Everyone,

Today is exactly 1 month since surgery (26th April.)

I am doing well and back at work and settled into this new way of life.

I started out with a BMI of 36 and have lost 20lbs which pleases me.

Energy is still a little low but otherwise everything is going well.

I was sleeved April 27th and feel fantastic! Almost 20 lbs gone, only lost about 6 pre-op but then afterwards it came off pretty quickly until I started on more solid food. I was kind of stuck for a couple of weeks, down 1, up 1, down 1/2, up 2, that kind of thing but I think that is over with and decided only to weigh myself once a week so I wouldn't go nuts with the up and down. Couldn't wait and weighed today after 4 days and am down 1 1/2 lbs! My hubby loves the new me too and finds me sooo sexy. It has been alot of fun! We've been married 23 years and the weight loss has spiced things up!!! I am on the treadmill almost everyday (at least 6 days a week) and have worked up to 2.5 miles at a speed of almost 3 miles an hour. I am eating a variety of foods, in small portions and loving every minute of it. My only complaint is sometimes I still feel like snacking at night which was my downfall previously. But, I always make healthy choices so I think I will be ok in the long run. Looking forward to my 6 week follow up visit and nutrition class. Kuddos to fellow April Sleevers!!!

OMG. Its amazing how much better I feel:thumbup:. I saw the Dr for my 6 week check in And I weigh 251lbs :001_cool:. Wow. I Too have a late -nite problem of snacking. But I choose the healthy items or very little of something., It a natural habit that I must confront head on. I can't imagine going backwards. I mean I made a pretty solid choice by getting the surgery. That was not very easy to do BUT I'm glad I did because I would have died from obesity.

I was considered "Morbidly Obese" :001_rolleyes:WOW...LOL:lol0:... I am giving it my all. I want to become healthy and LEAN.. Not just loose weight but tone and strenghtning my body as well. My Dr said all my blood work was so much better on everything tested. I was very pleased with my Appt. The only thing that bothers me is muscle pain on my left side. He said it will take atleast 3-4 months to fully heal.. He said it hurts because they cut thru the long muscle to get to my pouch and cut it off and pulled it out my body. WOW... My face dropped...LOL:lol0::lol0:. He does not sugar-coat anything and I like that! But I 'm good:thumbup: .

Hi everyone!

I'm at about 6 weeks and have lost 34 lbs. I'm on full food and haven't noticed any problems eating anything. Of course I'm still getting used to the new queue's my body gives me for "full" and "empty". AND I'm low on energy -- taking more naps than I used to.

I saw my regular doctor last week and she said that B12 is absorbed through the stomach lining and since I have less of that, I may have to get B12 shots to supplement. She had some blood drawn to check it.

I still have trouble drinking enough fluids. I have to force myself all day long to keep taking sips, but I bet I don't get more than 30 oz on most days.

Something wierd too...just this last week I have noticed a pain in the lower right side of my tummy (near the belly button line) when I cough. It's been there for about 5 days and seems to be increasing rather than going away. Anyone else have anything like that?

I wonder if that is from a hernia? I have not experienced that but that was the first thought that popped into my mind...very suspect.

Hi everyone.

I was sleeved April 27 and so far so good. No major issues or complaints. I started eating food (mushies) around week 3 and then I would eat maybe 5 small spoons and I was full. Now I'm eating regular food, but still trying to eat soft-like foods like apple sauce and oatmeal. I'm turning into a sugar freak - anything that I think has too much sugar I won't eat it, lol. I need to chill out I know. I have experienced a few bad eating episodes - where I felt like I was going to throw up but thank God I didn't. I think I ate too fast. After having a few of those, you get kinda scared to eat, lol.

Roja - keefak, ana mnih. I am not too far from you I'm in Kuwait and had my surgery done here. Sounds like you're doing really good:)

I lost 21lbs my first 2 weeks. I hit a stall at week 3 - just when I started eating. Week 4 I started on the treadmill. Only 30 min of walking...at 3.4 miles per hr on an incline of 5 - at least it kept me from running. I was working out before I had surgery but stopped one month prior. I lost another 2 lbs and my clothes are way loose now. I was a 16 now I'm wearing a size 14. I need to work on drinking enough Water - especially since its so hot here. I take Vitamins but no Calcium and no anti-acid meds. I drink milk for Calcium and sometimes I drink Ensure or a Protein drink - but it's not my favorite.

There weren't any incisions in that area and I haven't done any heavy lifting since the surgery..... I didn't notice it today, so maybe it was just a wierd fluke thing.

I am so glad to have found this thread. I was sleeved in April by Dr. Aceves. Surgery went smoothly. I bit of trouble with releasing gas and nausea but that has since subside. I am on solids now and as long as I chew well and eat slowly it goes down smooth. Getting in my 64 oz of liquid is still an issue for me but trying each day. I am down 25 pounds since surgery. I had some weight fluctuations but the scale is on the move again.

that sounds great! you are doing fabulously. I just had 4 oz of ground beef and I feel sick. I also had a handful of nuts and a few black olives just before dinner. you'd think I'd know better. this is horrible...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
