I went to my pre-op this morning and found out that my doc will be out of town on my original surgery date. So now I get to have it two days early....on 5/11. I really can't believe it's getting so close. He was very adamant about Clear Liquids for two weeks after surgery. I'm figuring 3 weeks of clear liquid is really just a small amount of time in my whole life so I can do it. Plus I get to see that you all did it.....glad you are all out there!

Cool on the earlier date, but I didn't do it! I was a wuss and felt lousy on liquids. I went to soft and mushy by the end of the first week and felt much better.

Your date will be here soon!

Congrats on your date. You will do fine. Those first few weeks I kept telling myself that I can do anything for a month! Turns out I really couldn't - did about 20 days of liquids and then went to soft foods. But I bet you are stronger than I - just follow your doctor's instructions.

coach,

the liquids were not that bad, really. you will always go back to liquids throughout your journey. i've had to to get the nourishment in. my suggestion is to be sure you try everything within the "liquid" parameters (try like crazy to stick to the rules, they are in place to aid in preventing leaks, complications, etc.), your tastes and preferences will change since all you'll be drinking are liquids so be sure to keep a variety on hand.

good luck and like you said it really is only a couple weeks!

This may sound kookie, but there was something very comforting to me about being on liquids, I knew precisely what the rules where, I knew that my sutures would be safe, I knew I wouldn't be consuming too much, and I knew that if I focused I could be hydrated and get in all my Protein. There are times that it is emotionally challenging, but it can be a big boost to your weight loss and I always think its a good idea to respect the post op diet. Good luck to you! And how exciting to get a two day head start.

Coach...

You will be so surprised how easy it is to get by on very little calories post op. Pre Op you might as well have shot me in the face as tell me I had to be on liquids for several weeks. But its really not that bad. You'll do fine.

Stacey

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
