Has anyone noticed that they now bruise really easily post-op? I hardly ever bruised pre-surgery (even when I was thin), even if I was bumped to the point that it brought tears, saw stars, etc. Now, however, I bruise really easily and they last forever.

Should I be concerned or is this just a "benefit" of having less padding?:svengo:

Did you have to give yourself injections of a bloodthinner after surgery? I did for 10 days and bruising was one of the side effects. If not then I would see my Dr as soon as possible. It may be nothing but here is a link about bruising as a symptom. Symptom: Bruising - CureResearch.com Best of luck!

I also have been bruising alot more easily since surgery. I thought it was a little weird, but just figured that maybe I hadn't replenished all the Vitamins I need yet, or was just lacking something. But now after reading the link above, I am thinking it might be something else...I gotta get in to see the doctor soon!!

I was diagnosed with an idiopathic clotting disorder last year. I had always bruised easily, and was kind of a "bleeder" pre-op. I had to see an oncologist/hematologist before my revision to get the diagnosis. Anyways, my bruising is much worse now that I am more than half the size I was. The bruises last forever, and they hurt for much longer than they did before losing weight.

I would check with your PCP and maybe have a standard blood panel pulled to ensure there is not an underlying cause.

Weird that you mentioned this, but yes I have noticed that I bruise easily on the legs now. I love to woodwork as a hobby in the evenings and am usually banging around in the shop 4 nights a week. It used to take a pretty good whack for me to bruise and it would go away fast. Now just the slightest bump leaves a mark for weeks at a time. I hadn't thought much about it till you brought it up. Could it be an Iron deficiency?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
