What do you miss?

Recommended Posts

This may seem like a strange question because I am not sorry I had the sleeve. I am soooo enjoying buying a size 12 pants. But...I do miss one thing and that is being able to drink with my meals. I know it is healthier not to drink with your meals even when you have not had the sleeve but I sure to do miss that! That is the one thing that will make me feel ucky if I do slip up and drink too soon.

Do any of you miss anything?

yup, rum and coke! I have been cleared to do whatever and eat/drink whatever, so on my birthday i really wanted a good old rum and coke, got the bottle out, opened it up and the whiff alone made me scared of it. . . i haven't had a coke or soda since last November 20th so that made me scared. . . so i closed up the bottle of rum, and had a glass of sherry instead. . . yuummmmmm was that good. . . hit the spot right on! food wise, i've never had a favorite food so really i don't miss anything there. . .

I do occasionally dream about eating pizza. That's the one food I really miss. Sometimes, I'll make a veggie pizza on Flat Out bread and that will kinda satisfy. But I miss the chewy, doughy crust. However, I wouldn't go back to my pre-sleeve days when I ate enough pizza to put myself into a food coma.

Because Im still on full liquids, I miss a good CRUNCH! Whether it be an apple, potato chip, pretzel, salad or taco! Other than that I don't miss much because you can make a low fat version of just about anything!

I miss it ALL !!! I was much more addicted to food than I knew :sad0:

I do sometimes have very small sips of Water with my food. Some things need help going down.

Rum and coke! That sounds wonderful! I have had a few sips of a margarita and homemade sangria. Was loopy tho after just a little!

pizza - I think it is Lean Cuisine that has a wonderful BBQ chicken pizza. One box is enough for 4 meals! lol

Someone brought a puffy baked chip to our volleyball tournament - don't remember the brand but did see them at Walgreens the other day. I had a few of those and they were great!

Overall, I don't mind getting full after a small portion, just wish I could eat it faster to get the meal over with. Not very patient. :scared0:

Pizza....yep. I do get tired of eating just the top but the crust is toooo filling. I loved the pan style crust. I must admit, I do eat chips sometimes...mostly baked ones. I like the crunch and it is easy going down for me.

So how does alcohol effect the sleeve I thought it would not cuz the bypass it goes to your liver quicker

Just for me, and my experience, alcohol isn't a bad thing. I drink wine on occasion, and on 2 other occasions, I drank pretty heavily on rum/cokes and miscellaneous shots. Grant it, I am at goal, and not losing anymore so I drink on occasion.

I can drink a glass of wine, and feel little to no effect if I drink it slowly. If I drink it quickly, it does hit my system quick, and then I feel normal again in about 20 minutes. With the couple of nights that I drank pretty heavily, I was able to maintain a good buzz, but then all the alcohol hit me at once, and I was pretty well hammered.

I can drink 2-3 glasses of wine over a 3 - 4 hour time frame and feel zero to little effect as well. It's all about pacing myself with alcohol. Wine is my safe bet. I sipped a friend's margarita and I felt nauseated. I don't drink vodka, but a lot of bariatric patients choose vodka and cranberry juice, or to mix it with crystal light.

As to what I miss, I kind of miss the 2-3 pieces of pizza I used to eat, but truthfully, pizza just isn't a pleasant experience for me anymore. It's just a waste. I don't even like the cheese and toppings. I've been making a homemade barbque chicken pizza for John lately, and he loves it. I take a few bites, but pizza has just lost it's appeal.

Luckily, I haven't had any major food intolerances, and nothing has been off limits thus far. I eat just about anything and everything just in smaller portions. Sometimes when something tastes really great, I hate not being able to eat that one last bite. But, I bring leftovers home, and have found that I can enjoy them again.

I miss eating ice cream a LITTLE bit. I've tried a couple of bites twice since being sleeved and got absolutely nauseated. So no more for me. My husband's family are ice cream junkies (they are all naturally slim too, darn them!), and I begat two of them during childbirth - ha! So we have to have 3-4 kinds of ice cream in my house at all times. Luckily I've found some Protein bars that are like eating a rice crispy treat, so if I want a goodie I'll go grab one of those and feel no guilt.

As for pizza, I had my first pizza this past weekend with no problems. I ate one small piece and was fine. It's an ultra thin crust though. I've given up bread because it just expands in my tummy so much and makes me uncomfortable, plus it's just plain carbs which I don't need.

I also miss the fat I used to have in my booty - mine is completely flat now! My tailbone starts hurting after sitting awhile. But that comes with the territory and I'll just have to exercise more to firm it back up.

I do not drink much alcohol at all. I was under the impression that it would hit your system sooner and that was why you are not supposed to drink for at leat a year. I was actually talking about just any liquids while eating. I really miss that!

Oh my gosh! I can totally relate. I'm just 10 days out. I just posted today and one of the things I posted about was missing drinking while eating. Missing is such an inadequate word. I CRAVE something to drink when I'm eating, I YEARN... you get the picture. I have to concentrate on not drinking anything and often I'm not successful. Pre-sleeve, I would drink 20-40 oz of Water with a meal - easy. I would love to hear anyone who has a tip to deal with this. Is it just something to which you have to get accustomed? Sigh.... Deb 45 lbs. -- that's tremendous. Good job.

This may be "against the grain" here, but I don't miss anything. Why? Because I don't have any "off limits" foods. The only thing that I gave up completely is diet cokes. And I did that months before my surgery. Thankfully, I don't miss them at all. I also never drank alcohol, so...

I've chosen to not be on a diet. I've chosen to eat like a normal, healthy person. That means that nothing is completely off limits. Everything is acceptable in moderation. Sure, I have to be careful & concious of what I eat. But if I want pizza, I eat a slice minus the end crust (I usually can't eat a whole slice & I sure can't eat the end crust). I don't eat if often. And honestly, since I've had my VSG I find I have much fewer cravings for the "not so healthy" foods.

That's just what works for me. I don't feel deprived. I don't feel like I'm on a diet. I simply feel like a normal healthy person who chooses the healthier options more times than not. But I also never feel guilty, or like I've failed if I choose to have a treat. It's a concious choice I've made, not mindless eating like pre-VSG.

I recently found something that I actually miss. I'm a lot like Jenn since I don't have any off limit foods. I don't really miss anything food wise. BUT, I do miss dunking homemade Peanut Butter Cookies into a glass of milk, then drinking the milk.

I did it out of complete habit. I dunk a big ole pb cookie into 3/4 cup of 1% milk, ate the cookie, and then drank the milk. Instant cramp. It made the entire experience icky.

I have no issue eating Cookies, or drinking milk, but the combo didn't work well for me at all.

Overall, I've found that I can eat truly anything. A lot of the junk food calls my name out during my ovulation week, but I haven't had any issues eating lately. I think that I'm finally at a point of eating and living normally so it's a lot different than when I was in the losing stage.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
