Pre-Op Hunger Update

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Thanks for all your comments and encouragement. I really appreciate it.

You were all right, I called my dr and his nurse said not to eat anything except green veggies and Optifast and lots of Water. Today is a lot better for me, I'm not as hungry and I have no headaches but day 2 and 3 were killer! I'm keeping my eye on the prize and aiming to be a successful "looser" like you guys! Thanks again and I will continue to drink strong!

I had to do Optifast for 3 weeks:omg: ! The first 2-4 days were awful. I litterally spent all my extra time in the bedroom with the TV. It's tough, but it is totally worth it. My surgeon said he was concerned before my surgery if I hadnt done the optifast properly, but when he was inside he said he knew I had followed the diet because everything was perfect and made surgery a breeze. It is totally worth it to stick to it. I posted little stickys on the cupboards representing each day I had left till surgery, it gave me great pleasure to rip one down each evening. The day of the surgery you'll be sooooo proud of yourself, it's a great way to start. Good Luck!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
