WOW! That is a lot. Every surgeon is different, but most recommend 60-80 grams per day (maximum I've heard is 100). Did your surgeon say why such a high recommendation?

Isopure has a ready-made bottle in lots of flavors that has 40g in 20 ounces. It's more expensive that powders, but tastes better to me. I use both (powders and bottles), but the ready-made Isopure is kind of like watered-down Kool-Aid and quenches my thirst unlike the thick drinks.< /p>

I've been told that the body can only "use" 30-35 grams of Protein at a time. I get Premier Protein ready-to-drink shakes at costco. They have 30 g per serving and mix it with PB2, the lowfat Peanut Butter powder, which has 4.3 g of protein for my morning "peanut butter cup" shake.

Do you plan on about 5 shakes a day to get all that protein in?

Good luck on your journey.

I like the Jay Robb shakes... with MILK. You can get in 33-35 grams of Protein (depending on the Protein in the milk) with ONE 8 oz shake. The Jay Robb has 25 grams in 6 oz serving, with the milk, it's a steal on protein for the amount you have to ingest. Here's a link to the website for this guy... I buy it at Whole Foods here in town (and I've heard they have it at other places too, but I haven't look). Hope this helps!

Jay Robb whey protein isolate, egg white protein, and brown rice Protein Powder - Official Site fruit Flush 3 Day Detox

PS -- I do the "regular" protein he offers, haven't tried the Egg White or brown rice protein... if anyone has, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

Just a comment on grams of Protein.

Most people can only absorb 24 grams of Protein at a time. People that take servings that boast of 30 or 32 are just wasting it.

So when you take your protein, 24 grams is the max at one serving.

Can someone PLEASE cite a source for the various "facts" about Protein intake and absorption? I've tried to dig up the information with no luck... And, I'll say if you read through these discussions, there are any number of people saying contradictory things... as low as 20 grams at a time, as high as 50 (from what I've seen over the months I've been reading and writing here). Just wondering if anyone can get some facts on this? I certainly don't want to waste money or energy trying to choke down more than I can tolerate in one sitting. thanks!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
