When did you/could you get a full massage after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I have had the same ache in my back since surgery. I want to go to chiropractor but honestly I don't feel ready for that. So I was thinking to get a massage tomorrow on parts of me other than stomach.

Anyones doctor advise against that for any reason? Did you get a massage? Anyone else have a back ache following surgery?

My back ache started right after surgery. It is in the middle of my back mostly on the right side. It feels like a very tired ache.

I have regular massages for my knee. They work on the knee, hips, shoulders, and back since My knee seems to throw things outta wack.

I'm not totally comfortable with laying on my stomach at 3 weeks out, but it's getting better. My knee has really been bothering me, so I made an appointment for next Friday.

My doctor didn't give me any advice for when I could go back (I guess I should have asked) ... but I am going to try. I figure if it gets uncomfortable, I can just ask to shorten the session.

Since we are a few weeks apart, maybe you should call your surgeon and ask.

Best of luck - back pain is no fun.

I too have had a backache since surgery (1 week) - only mine is on my left, not my right). I was scheduled to have a massage tomorrow, but cancelled it because it isn't comfortable to lay down yet. When I can lay on my side comfortably, I'll go (hopefully next week as soon as they take this drain out...).

I mentioned to my doc that I get massages every week and he never mentioned I'd have to wait. But I have read that massage can helps your skin maintain its elasticity and can help with the "saggy" stuff you have after a major weight loss. So, I'm definitely planning on continuing!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
