Day two at home...

Recommended Posts

Anyone have the burning when they move to get up or sit down...it's slightly better today but wondering how many people experienced this burning instead of pain? Still feel very tired :tired: Bloated...shoulder pain from gas...I've been taking GasX every four hours...but doesn't help much. Walking around the house a lot...then sitting then walking and then laying down, etc. I am doing OK on the liquids...just sipping a lot but not getting in nearly as much as they recommend....did anyone the first few days? For example this morning I have half cup of Water and half cup of broth for 'breakfast'....sound OK?

Thanks guys...you are a BIG help in keeping me calm and focused.

Janey

Unfortunately, Gas-X is really only for intestinal gas. It doesn't help alot with the residual effect of the C02 used to inflate your abdomen during surgery. Walking is really the biggest help for that.. and possibly a heating pad. This too shall pass!!

I'd say for the first week I really, really struggled to get even half of what the doctor asked. I sipped all the time but there was just no way I could get all that Fluid in.

The pain I had was like an overworked muscle pain. Sort of like I'd done situps or something. It didn't burn or really hurt, it just kind of ached a bit. The only issue I had was being a side sleeper. I put a pillow under my stomach to give it support so I could lay on my side.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
