Does anyone feel like they are "starving"?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

First, thanks to all for sharing your experiences that are extremely helpful because for me, they provide a range of activities and issues.

After being sleeved, who feels like they are "starving" (regardless of stage of weight-loss)?

What was your solution?

What was the impact on weight loss?

Thanks very much for your help.

I have and still have zero hunger issues. I literally have to remind myself to eat.

I'm fairly sure I could go days without eating as long as I had my Water with me, I'd be okay.

Hopefully others will chime in with their experience, and be able to give you some tips.

There are times when I have a feeling of hunger. Not starvation. Its not like before surgery, when I would feel so hungry I would literally get sick to my stomach.

The biggest I ssue I have with hunger, is the "head" or "mind hunger". This can get very bad at times. When this happens I try to drink more Water, or suck on a hard candy. Anything to get over it.

I think alot of it depends on what size cathetor they used during your procedure as well.

Have a good one :thumbup1:

I don't know what it is that I feel. It is definately not hunger like before but I do get to where I feel something and want to eat. Then I can eat so little that I wonder what was the use in eating. Sometimes what I eat does not seem to stay with me long. I worry sometimes that I got so strung out trying to get in enough Protein last week that I developed poor habits of eating all the time. It is better though and I am working on it. It is definately an adjustment trying to figure this all out!

I am going to be sleeved on Feb 8th and the worry that keeps going through my head is will I be able to eat enough to work out and not feel crappy or weak. I am an advid exerciser (have been for years despite my weight) and I will definately have a difficult time if I can't eat OR exercise. Has anyone had a problem with this? I know for the first few weeks before I can get enought Protein it might be a problem but I am talking about long term...

I'm 5.5 months post-op. I didn't feel hunger really at all the first couple of months, but then I started noticing that if I went from 5 AM until 4 PM (when I get up to when I typically get home) I would be pretty darn hungry, but I also noticed those days were days I was so busy that I didn't drink as much Water either. Thankfully this only happened a few times. This last week though, I was like a bottomless pit, but now that I read dybarra's post I'm thinking it could have had to with the fact that I've upped my exercise routine quite a bit.

I get plain hungry... I have to feed my tummy every 3 hours or so. I feed it small amounts of things I can eat. I have a Protein Shake for Breakfast at 6:30 am. At 10:00 am it's break time at work and I have a snack like sliced ham & mustard, or tuna salad. At 1:00 pm I have lunch, one of these... Chili, steamed shrimp, Spagetti meat sauce (no spaghetti), or baked chicken. 4:00 pm break time, I have a Protein Bar. By the time I get home after my work out at the fittness center..I'm really hungry. And usually have one of the same items as I have for lunch and a SF pudding or Yogurt after dinner. YES I get HUNGRY...it didn't go away for me.

Hi,

From what I can see, the extremes of not being hungry to hungry alot, still prevail with the sleeve.

Yet, with the sleeve, one cannot eat as much volume as before the sleeve. Is this what you would say, Judy?

I can honestly say hunger is no longer an issue for me. Since getting my sleeve, I have not once said I am starving. I crave things, but that is head hunger, not real physical hunger. I am pretty good about eating my three regular meals on a relatively consistent schedule, so I think that helps too.

2b4me, you are correct, you are physically unable to eat the quantities of food you did pre-sleeve. Which, is wonderful!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
