Hi Megan,

I'm sending you a big hug! It's totally normal to be nervous about surgery - I know I will be when I go down in 7 weeks. You've done your research and chosen a good hospital and Dr. so things will be fine!! Try not to worry. It will all be over with before you know it and your life will be on track to losing the weight - what an awesome feeling that will be. I can't wait for it.

This is a really positive step you are taking for you! Who deserves it more?? :)

You go, girl!!! Get your sleeve and then rock it!!! It will be awesome!

Hugs,

MJ:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I'm headed there Sunday & even I am freaking out here at home! But just remember, you did your research & you're there for a reason... these are just the normal cold feet jitters. Pretty soon you'll be on he other side of things & you'll be one of the posters helping all us newbies with our decisions & our new journey!

Good luck & wishing you a smooth surgery!

I am unaware of the spinal tap as well???

Hello,

I haven't heard of getting a spinal tap for this surgery. Who is your surgeon? I had mine done last week in TJ, Mexico, no spinal tap for me. I walked into the OR, and I walked back to my room from recovery.

Megan, sending you hugs and good thoughts from the Bay Area. Try to focus on something that makes you feel good and relaxed. Picture your favorite place to hang out and just visualize yourself there having fun. You can do this. You've built up to today and when the surgery is over you're going to be happy you didn't run. Stay close to us the next few days and let us share in your delight that it's over.

Megan-

Don't worry about the spinal tap. I've have MANY of them. I have Psuedotumor Cerebri- a condition that causes Fluid to gather on my brain (because of my WEIGHT!) They give me spinal taps to remove the fluid. It's only a little uncomfortable, not even painful. These are done all the time. It's normal to be anxious. Try to relax. I didn't know they did spinal taps though... you will be fine. Hugs to you.!!

Megan,

I'm sure you have already had the surgery...I believe Dr. Aceves does the spianl tap in order to limit the quantity of pain meds needed. He doesnt use a morphine pump etc after surgery.just IV. I had no consequences what-so-ever from having it done although they do warn you ahead that you may not be able to move your legs once you wake up in recovery for bout an hour. I don't remember even being in rocovery LOL..so not an issue for me!

Docs are amazing..just relax and let the staff take care of you!

Best of luck

Kris

Megan, how are you feeling today? Probably really sorry you did this huh? But I promise honey, as long as you start your walking and sipping you'll be ok. . . the pain will be gone within the week . . . I was sleeved on 12/29 and today is 01/05/10 I can cough and sneeze without worry now. . . it's so much easier, the not having anything to eat except for Clear Liquids is a killer right now, I'm even dreaming that I'm in India with this little boy making dahl puree rice with curry and this random man is wanting it so I fight the man with all i have. . . This dud is NOT getting my curry! hope this brought a smile to your face! i promise it gets better!

Megan - you are wonderful hands, and we're all pulling for you. I'm thinking of you today.

Some surgeons use the spinal so they don't have to use as much of the general anesthestic. I know it's scary, but have faith in your surgeons, and their skills.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
