Started my pre-op diet today!!!!

Recommended Posts

I will be in Mexico this time next week! I am so excited! I started my pre-op today, i am a vegetarian....so high Protein low carb is SOOOOO hard for me! I had about 40 carbs today....pretty good for a start i think....it's so hard, but i can do it. I can't even begin to imagine life afterwards, I hope to be so much happier and healthier!

Thank you to everyone for the encouragement and advice!

Anyone have any last minute tips....or maybe a list of must-haves for the hospital???

Love to all of you!

Take Chapstik or Blistex...when they come with the blue dye to do your first swallow test after recovery, it will stain your teeth (temporary...but still) I put Chapstik all over my teeth before I drank the dye and it didn't stain my teeth! (lol..it's the little things that make me happy). You'll be happy to have it for the dry lips too.

Warm socks, nothing more miserable than cold feet.

slip on shoes or slippers for walks within a few hours of surgery. They want you UP and MOVING!

My IPod was a necessity for me...something about having my own music on hand while I drifted in and out of pain meds, really helped.

Loose clothing to wear home, nothing fitted because your tummy will be swollen.

Some $5 bills to tip your driver or to take a taxi for your last meal.

A list of YOUR questions. Don't count on remembering them when you get there, things move fast and you have to be ready.

there are some great lists here on the forum somewhere....I don't have time to look them up this morning but if no one else responds by this afternoon I'll try to do that.

I wish you luck Megan! High Protein, low carb must be hard so you should feel proud for getting down to 40 carbs...I ate meat and it was still very difficult for me. I can't really think of anything to add to the hospital list. For me, slippers were a life saver. I also had a very loose outfit to wear home.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
