Sleeve scheduled for Dec 30th!!

Bernadette -

I was right there with you - dead set on getting the band. I was a walking, talking LapBand commercial. I went to Dr. Nick's seminar and something about Grehlin caught my interest when he talked about the sleeve. I went home, found this site and learned so MUCH more about the sleeve and the complications of the band. Whew! I have so many people here to thank for a narrow escape.

Take care girl.

Hi youknowit!

Thanks for your post! First of all Before they did the surgery I never did get a clear explanation of what was wrong with the band. Well when the got in there the stomach had grown around the band, I'm not sure if the band slipped and that allowed it or what. My others organs had gotton pushed int a corner so ther were growing together. When it came time to take the band out the could not get at it in whole, so they had to cut little pieces out at a time. Then the went in and cleaned up the scar tissue. What a mess!!! My surgery should have been about an hour but it ended up taking 4 hours. I have had 15 surgeries and this is the absolute worst one I have had. So happy your band is out, and you will just have the sleeve surgery. There were two other women that had the sleeve the same day as I did and they bounced right back, so you will do GREAT!

So when are you scheduled?

Thanks for your post and keep me posted, Bernadette

Hi Bernadette,

Sounds like you went through quite an ordeal! I'm so sorry... It also sounds like your band and mine were erosion-twins. UGH. They had to cut my band out of my stomach in a few places, it was so eroded... and just like you, I didn't know anything was really "wrong" other than the leak... so I too might have gotten to a point of no return (major infection and/or death) had this information not come to light when I went in for my sleeve revision/band removal. It was bitter sweet having the band out, and not getting the sleeve, but I must say, that was for the best. Especially hearing how it all went for you, that was me, and that was some SCARY stuff, as you know very well. :frown1::svengo:

I'm on the schedule as of today, with Dr. Aceves office, for Friday, January 22. It's starting to solidify in my brain... I'm doing this. I must admit, with the band BS and such, I'm scared, but excited. I really hope everything goes smooth as silk. Having gone to Dr. A for my band removal, he'll know exactly what he's dealing with on my tummy, etc, and this helps ease my mind a bit. Please keep your fingers and toes crossed for me... and let me know how you are. I'm just so sorry you went through all that pain. I didn't even get the sleeve when band was removed, and my pain was pretty intense as well... Chat soon! :crying::crying:

I'm so happy to hear that you have a date all set! It will be here before you know it. This experience was more than I thought it would be, I certainly did not expect this much discomfort. But you know each day is better and better, I don't have much pain left, just discomfort. I have not taken any pain pills today, and I hope I won't have to take anymore at all! I'm so glad to just have the dumb band out and be onto a healthier life.

Good luck to you, keep me posted!

I'm looking forward to "moving forward" past this band/bs part of my weightloss journey! Can I ask you a couple of question?... if you don't want to answer, that's ok, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask. And, I'd be happy to hear from anyone on here that would be willing to share...

First, what stage of the game are you in right now, meaning, are you on Clear liquids still? When were you able to start taking "pills", and how is that going for you? Second, did your doc give you or prescribe for you, Nexium? If so, are you taking it as a pill, or are you dissolving? Third, did you take GasX strips or anything like that with you to MX? I did last time, but didn't need it. When I had my band, I needed it, and didn't have it, go figure. :smile1:

Also... is there anything you would recommend on getting things ready at home BEFORE I leave for surgery? I know this thread might not be the right place to ask these questions, but it seems like you've been through very similar experiences as I, and so I'm curious to know more about your experiences, and anyone else who might want to share. :biggrin0:

Thanks again for your help and support. I hope you are feeling better soon and less sore... Keep us all posted on your progress... how's the walking going? :biggrin2:

I'm still on Clear Liquids until tomorrow which will make it an even 10 days!!! Next week will be full liquids. As far as pills I have been able to take them since day 3, not a problem at all. I do have antibiotic pills that are huge and I break them in half.

My Dr. did not prescribe anything Nexium or anything like that. I have not had any hearburn either. I know some Dr's prescribe it automatically, but not mine. I was not on anything before, so I'm hoping I won't need anything now. But when I was heavy I started everyday with a Zantac or two!!!

Yes, yes, yes take gas-x you will need it just like after the band, in fact I needed it more this time because of the length of my surgery. And I was not able to get up and walk as much this time, so the gas was horrible.

As far as getting things ready before you go, I would just reccomend that the house is clean! My husband was off work for 10 days and had all 3 of his kids here for the duration. I'm going nuts looking at a messy house that they so nicely left for me :thumbup1: I tend to be a clean freak, and looking at everything out of order is driving me nuts. I will do what I can today, but not too much!

I wish you lots of luck, you will do great with the sleeve. In fact I just went to the kitchen and filled a glass of cold Water and drank about half of it in one gulp!!! I could not have any cold Water in the morning at all. In fact with the band I could not get nearly as much water in that I wanted to, it was hard because I'm a water drinker.

So far so good with the sleeve I think I'm going to LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great day!

Hi all... bummer news for me. I won't be coming down to see Dr. A on the 22nd. :frown1: My doc here in town wants me to have blood tests and follow up with him, and the soonest I could get back in with him is that week of the 22nd. So... I guess we shall see what he has to say, and then get the ball rolling.

Before I go, I did want to share with you what my local doctor said to me today... he said that even though I lost weight with the band, and have gained back since I lost my band... he doesn't think that being 210 pounds warrants another weightloss surgery. This, I thought, was odd... considering my past success. It was kind of crushing. I shut down when he told me that, because I was about to bust out crying... Anyways, that's my update, friends. I'm sorry I won't be there with all of you, but hope that I will be going down for surgery soon!

:confused1:

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
