I am two months out and I am starting to cheat..not much but I do. I take little pieces of bread, french fries, little piece of cake. I hate myself for this. I should stop doing this. they pass really normal like anything else. i don't cheat everyday but I do every now and then. also I ate mixed nuts last two days. they are healthy but I am afraid they will sabotage my weight loss efforts. I will not take them again.

I know how you feel, I received a big jar of deluxe mixed nuts Monday and had two days of nibbling on them, can't imagine the amount of calories. Today they are being put away! Talk about sabatoging myself! However, we have to forgive ourselves and get our resolve back and move on!

(At least they weren't chocolates!)

Dark Dove chocolate is very much on my diet plan (after post op recovery).

It has so many health benefits. However, just like the nuts, cakes etc...it all needs to be kept in strict control. A treat "now and then" isn't going to kill your weight loss. NOT exercising to burn off the extra calories is what kills your weight loss!

oh how we all know where you are today. i was just probably a week/half out and we were watching a movie and everyone around me was having popcorn and there was a bag of gold fish sitting beside me and I started munching on them. letting them dissolve in mouth to a mush. my dr. would be furious with me. but you know we all go from eating whatever we want to eating nothing!!! how can they expect us to give up food just like that. that would be like asking a person who has smoked for 40 years to stop smoking!! this is an adiction and we all need to look at obesity that way. food is great and we all love it with a passion!! take it one day at a time.

OMG I am SOOOO Right there with you!!! I am 9 weeks out and I definitely have had great progress but I know it could be better and I kick myself because the Cookies, the chips go down so easy in comparison to the yogurt the chicken etc. I think I am having more of a difficult time figuring out what to actually eat because I am getting so much indigestion and acid reflux from everything (pasta and mashed potatoes = not my friends) that the baked lays and sugar cookies are just easy stand bys but WOW MELODY talk about sabotage!!! Ugh so mad at myself. Need to stop it pronto!!! I need to figure out what else I can try to eat at 9 weeks and start focusing on that and leave the chips alone lol

I'm 9 weeks out, lost 46 lbs since surgery.

And I snack :drool5:.

I dont call it cheating though.

I allow myself to do some snacking. I eat either (light) chips, popcorn or something chocolate/sweet almost every day!

I just make sure that I do get enough Protein and have a strict rule on minimum of 1 fruit a day.

I find that not making a big deal out of sweets/snacks/no-no's makes it so much easier on myself. I dont think about what I am NOT allowed to eat all day, I just think about the bowl of "fill in anything yummies here" I AM going to have in the evening.

And you know what? There are days that I just dont even feel like it. And I can say to myself, "nah, dont want it". But thats because I do allow it.

You guys know how it is with saying something is not allowed  You're just not going to be able to resist it. :seeya:

No matter how much I'd like to be the health nut, the person who can resist carbs and sugars, I'm just not going to be that. Its not "me". Its not something I will be able to continue for a long periode of time, trust me, I've tried.

I was told by my dietist lady to "stick to your own "you"" Dont try and change yourself so much. Just do eat less of everything (like thats a choice post-op :cursing:) and make sure you stay healthy and fit!

Thats what I do, I do make sure I exersize as much as possible, and loving it!

Surely not everyone is the same, but hope maybe this post will help.

Hi, I make myself drink some chocolate fudge Myoplex (3 oz) BEFORE I indulge in a snacky treat. It usually kills the head hunger. I have had a few mixed nuts, but, I thought thoes were good for me. hahhaaha. not having any trouble with cakes etc. I generally have one bite and am done. I have been re-packing everything large that comes in and giving it to neighbors and friends. That way tempting stuff does not stay around too long. I also am trying to get one fruit a day down. I can only eat 1/2 a small bannana. I working on it. Sheeze!

Haley, I like your attitude. Thanks for your reply. I like that you are not beating yourself up. it is true some days I don't feel like I need to snack at all.

ya I know that! cakes are easy! I also take one fruit a day usually apple is my favorite. I can eat one small banana but I don't know I don't like it like before surgery. apple dont make me constipate and go down very easily and are filling me up. apple has always been my favorite fruit:).

mixed nuts are wonderful. they are useful but I know I should slow down and take only a handful of those. lots of best wishes and luck.

You are welcome sweetie! I do believe in being as positive as possible and staying close to your true self!

I cant even eat 1/2 a small banana, I used to love banana's but it just fills me right up after a few bites.

What works best I find, is an orange. It takes so much time pealing, and getting all the little white stringy things off, it keeps me busy for an hour in the evenings :thumbup1: !

Guilt is not helpful, I agree with you. As long as we are following our surgeon's advice on calories/protein/timeline, we can eat anything, just in moderation.

Sometimes we have to "backpeddle" if we develop a problem, but that's usually temporary. Enjoy life. Take care of your sleeve. Forget the guilt.

i just had a piece of better than sex cake! i made it mostly sf except for cream cheese layer and the pecan crust. but i just didn't eat that layer. i just ate the sf pudding and whipped cream. do they make a sf powder sugar? i also have not eaten exactly good over these christmas holidays. too much carbs. stayed under 900 cal but had things that i shouldn't have. only ate an ounce or two but it was bad for me but was nice to have other things that i just love!!

Nuts are a healthy snack as long as you don't eat too many. Once I'm back off mushies, I'll resume eating some each day.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
