How much is too much??

Recommended Posts

I was curious how much did everyone start off with when eating solids? How often did you eat? :huh0::(

I never did really measure - I know that when I first started on solids, I could eat about 1/2 of the tiny cans of tuna salad - I think those are about 3 oz, so 1.5 oz and I was eating 3x a day.

I couldn't eat more than 2oz of dense proteins(meats) when I started solids. I had to chew, chew, and chew. I needed to have lots of Condiments when I ate meat with the band. This little "habit" transferred over when I had my revision. I still catch myself eating gravy, ketchup, anything wet to help get the meat down. Funny thing is, I don't technically need it anymore with the sleeve. I ate turkey and ham on Thanksgiving with nothing on it, and it was fabulous to actually be able to taste meat without a condiment of some sort.

Anyways, sorry for the ramble. When I first started solids, I only ate 2-3 times a day. I would have yogurt (still do to this day) for Breakfast then 3-4 hours later I'd eat meat. I have never been able to eat more than 3 meals per day.

Now at almost 6 months post-op, I can eat about 4oz of dense Protein, and 6-7oz of mushies (not combined of course).

I could easily only eat once of twice a day because I never get hungry, but I force myself to eat at least 3 meals a day.

When I first began solids, I could eat around 2 oz. (sometimes less, sometimes more, depending). My program really stresses only eating 3 meals per day with two Snacks (they want those to be Protein supplement drinks). I would usually do a yogurt or protein supplement for my first "meal" and then have 2 other meals during the day. I would sometimes have another snack like Protein Bar or popsicle, it would just depend.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
