Pills and Vitamins

Recommended Posts

Can you tell me if anyone can take Vitamins in pill form? My nutrician appointment said it has to be chewable, and I HATE chewable vitamins. Have tried everything. I was so excited going from the band to sleeve to be able to take pills...

Also, if you get sick, can you take pills?

Thank you,

Deby:crying:

I think they have to be chewable, dissolveable, or liquid at first.....after you are on chewable foods I can't see why you couldn't just swallow them. I'm sure the post-surgical sleevers will respond...I'm pre-op so not much help. lol

For the first 31 days, your pills must be liquid or crushed or broken into small pieces. Have you tried adult gummy vitamins? Slice of Life has some that are good. Ask your doctor or pharmacist whether the medications that you are on can be broken or crushed. After you are on full solid food you can take your Vitamins and medications in pill form.

The first few weeks most of us found it difficult swallowing larger pills due to the swollen esophagus from the entubation. But crush them between wax paper and mix in with a Protein drink if you can tolerate the taste, or blend in with yogurt. I am still on adult chewable vitamins because they are sweet and it is nice after a meal to feel like they are dessert! :laugh0:

Smaller pills I can take quite easily since day one, the horse sized ones - no can do yet.

Cheers,

I take Centrum pills without a problem. I'm six weeks out and have been taking them for three weeks. I also take a B-12 pill and a Protonix pill. This hasn't been an issue for me. My post-op pain medication was Darvocet which is a huge pill, and I took them starting day 2.

I was told anything the size of an M&M or smaller could be swallowed if I wasn't able to tolerate the pills crushed and/or mixed with Water. The ones that I couldn't swallow I would cut into small pieces. I am now almost 6 months out and am able to swallow all of my pills as long as I take them one at a time -- exhale completely - and then swallow.

I had the same probably with chewables... AND well, I am 30 days out and the dr gave me the green light to try a swallowed multi Vitamin. I just bought one a day woman's --- i think that is what they are called and so far so good. I bought a liquid form of B12 which is only every 3 days and the Calcium is by Citracal in pill form... So, I am really exited about taking them rather than chewables! Hate those!! :svengo:

I bought a little device at the drugstore. One end cuts pills in half and the other end crushes them. It has come in handy since all they had in Mexico was 40mg nexium so I cut each one in half. I swallow a capsule every morning. I tried the calcium citrate but it made me feel sick. That was at 2 or 3 weeks. I am now 7 weeks so will try again. I take a sublingual B-12 and a chewable multi that tastes like pineapple.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
