Mountain_lover now on the Pre-op Diet!!

Recommended Posts

I am now on my 2 week Pre-op Diet. It will consist of 4-5 Protein milkshakes, which I can make with fruit, nuts, non fat yogurt, and skim milk daily. Also I can have a Protein Bar for the moment when I feel a hunger moment. I am going to try hard to limit those to 1 each day. I will also need to drink 32-64 oz. of Water each day. I will be having my sleeve on Dec.2, it will be here before I know it. I feel like I am on an emotional rollercoaster ride. I am so excited that I am truly getting Closer to having the sleeve surgery. YAHOO, Thank you for all your comments and your thoughts & prayers. I posted a new album of my pictures " Night before Pre-op Diet pictures. I will post more after I get done right before I have the surgery.

Congrats mountain_lover. I know how excited you are. I am not far behind you on the 8th. It feels like I go to bed thinking of the surgery and the future and I wake up thinking of it. The pantry is already reorganized with "my shelf" and I had to talk myself out of packing my bag already. lol .. I'm not sure how tall you or what your goal is, but our weight is pretty much the same thing. It will be fun tracking together. Best of luck on the diet.

Mountianlover: Cut the Protein Bar into 4 pieces. You can have all four if needed, but, try one piece at a time with Water and wait to see if that one piece does the trick.

The up side to this is, you will be eating these smaller amounts after surgery and you are getting a head start. You will remember how difficult,(=willpower) it was before surgery to eat this small amount. and you will giggle at how easy this is after. Life is gonna be soooo good. hang in.

Nice family pics...is that your daughter's wedding?

The pre surgery diet may get tough early on but then it gets easier as you lose the hunger feelings....I did anyway. Hang in there...look at your pics when you feel tempted..that helped me. You will be so glad you did this!

I would like to say thank you to each and everyone of you who posted comments. They are all very helpful and much appreciated. I am liking my shakes and bars, but I am having a hard time getting 4-5 in each day. It is after midnight and I am going to go fix me another one because I only had 3 of them on Wednesday and 3 on Thursday before midnight. I did eat a Protein bar each day. I am going to the Y about 3 times each week. I miss it when I don't go. I will post later and let you know how the pre-op diet is going. I am so excited about doing this. I feel that this is my best chance to have a shot at losing weight and keeping it off. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!

Hello lucygoose,

I am 5' 4 1/2" tall. My goal is 145. My goal up until I decided to have the sleeve was 155-166 pounds, because that is the weight I was at for at least 8+ years before 1978.

That was the year that I was hospitalized when I had a so called "nervous breakdown" and they put me on tranqualizers for awhile and I started gaining weight. I gained up to about 300 pounds in 2 years being on medication. I have pictures of me before gaining all that weight, and all these years I have wanted to get back down to that weight. But now since I have decided to have the sleeve I do believe that I should have my goal at 145 pounds, which will be a more ideal weight for my height and my large body frame. I know that I will be happy with anything below 165, but I am hoping to be at 145 give or take a little. I want to be more healthy, happier and to live much longer. Also I would like to have better self-esteem from having a more ideal weight than what I have had all these years from being so obese. I wish you all the best on your surgery on Dec. 8.

Hello cajun,

You are right, it will be here before I know it. It is already Nov.22. Time sure is going by fast.

Thank you for your comments about my pics. Yes that was my daughters wedding. She got married last year in june. I weighed less than I do now in those pictures. I gained alot after those pictures. My mother passed away a week before my daughter got married. Also I had surgery in April of last year on my knee, a total knee replacement and it was hard for me to exercize. I wasn't very active after the surgery on my knee. It has healed up quite a bit now, so I am trying to exercize more.

I hope I can continue to lose after surgery and not have to go through that up and down weight ever again. I want for this to be successful, I am really ready for a change. I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired of being obese. I wish you all the best.

I am so glad that you are feeling better. Just remember you are never alone now. You can always come on here and talk to us. EVEN AT 1:OO OR 2:00 IN THE MORNING. ( I see that there are at least 8 viewers on this pre-op topic ) I have a hard time going to sleep, I always have but it is even more difficult now since I am feeling like I am on an emotional rollercoaster ride. I am really glad that I found this forum to help me through this journey. I really feel sorry for all the people that have to go through this without any support. I wish you all the best on the 29th.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
