I drove the day after I got home from the hospital, which was 5 days post op. I went back to work after 2 weeks. Once started on mushies, my energy was much closer to normal.

I drove the day I got home (also 5 days post-op) and Bearded drove himself home (I don't drive fast enough for him) after his surgery - 4 days post op. Neither of us had pain meds after leaving the hospital.

This is a good question.

I am a private duty homecare provider for a man with Alzheimers. No stairs, no lifting, honestly probably no more "work" than being at home. I'll bet I can even manage a nap or two if needed. I'm having surgery on a Monday and plan to return to work on the following Tuesday. That's Christmas week so I'll have a short week with a break in the middle for Christmas day (no work that day).

Is this realistic or do I need to plan on two weeks off work?

Tracey - entirely realistic - I had surgery on Friday and returned to work on Thursday - I had planned to return on Wed. but had some intestinal issues so stayed home close to the bathroom.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
