Newbie and ready to begin the journey

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new here but have been reading the posts for a couple of weeks. Had my visit with the Doc on Friday. He wants to do the VSG cause I was not able to lose the 50lbs he wanted me to for the RYN (diets don't work for me I told him if it was that easy to lose 50lbs why would I be seeing him in the first place). Anyhow waiting to see if insurance (Principal) will pay for the VSG then they will set the date. I've been going through hoops since February as the insurance made me see a nutritionist for 6 months before they would consider approval so it's been a long and frustrating haul. I hope I get approved and a date can be set before this year ends I don't want to go into 2010 still waiting to do this.

The notion that this might be the beginning of a new journey for me is both exciting and scary. They want me to do a 1200 calorie liquid diet right now but I'll wait to see if I get approved and we have a date set as that will give me something to focus on. Looking for support and encouragement.

Hi Cookie, and welcome to the forum. I can only imagine how frustrating it is to wait on insurance. I hope you get good news soon on an approval, and we'll all be here to support through this journey.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
