Recommended Posts

Hi

I am almost 3 wks post band and from day 2 I have been getting a really sharp pain down near my hip - but what is down there? It's about an inch up from my hip bone and about 2 inches inward - does anyone have any experience of this? Tidge.

I got the gas pains in the hip/side. Not in my shoulder like everyone else. Right above my pelvis, in the side like a stitch and slighly higher up under the arm too.

It sounds like sciatic pain. I believe there is a chiropractor here who might be able to shed some light on your problem. If the pain is too bad, call your MD.

Yes, it is exactly like a stitch - I didn't even think of gas but maybe??? I'll call the doc. if it doesn't go.

Tidge, I am a little over three weeks banded and I have pain that I would describe as like a side ache (like after you run too hard) that is located right at my waistline between my side and my belly button, but much closer to the side. This pain bothers me a lot more when I am up moving around and I am sure it is not gas. I had some gas pain in my shoulders and back after surgery. This is a much sharper pain. Is this anything like you are experiencing? I am going to call my doctor and ask about it. I'll let you know what they say.

Hope

Tidge, Just read your message more carefully. You mentioned that your pain was in/on your hip. Just curious, is it in the front or the back?

Hi Hope

It's in the front and is much worse when I move around - it gets worse throughout the day and is very sharp. It's making me a bit miserable actually cos all the other peeps banded in may seem to be pain free and out dancing!

I'm generally quite sore every day but that pain is the most intense.

Yours does seem very similar - I'd like to hear what your doc says - my surgeon will be away until 5th june and I don't think my GP will be much help!

Do let me know if you find out a way to deal with it! Regards, Tidge.

Yep, sounds exactly like what I"m talking about. Gas, and I also got sore there when each of my babies was born, just seems to follow the recovery. It always went away after a month or so.

I got that too, about 2 weeks out. Same spot. It was pretty bad. It's gas believe it or not, but like you, it freaked me out. Like yours it was sharp, hurt when I moved and got worse as the day went on. It even hurt to sleep on it.

Your not alone!

Did you get it treateed Leena or did it just go. How do you know it was wind? Tidge.

Thanks for taking the time to try & help.

That is EXACTLY where the pain is but I cant find a fist or knot when I feel there. If I have to walk with it, it does feel a little better if I push hard with my fingers into the pain area as I walk. Bowell movements small but daily! Owch. Do you think a laxative would help?

I don't know what a chiroprator is/does but if it will help - I'll go to one!

Yep I had some pain there to it went away, but the only way to be sure is seek info from your Doc

Another possibility. I've had a right, lower quadrant sort of 'stitch' type pain since my second banding. From what I can gather, the doc seems to think it is adhesions.

Hope,

I have these exact same two pains!!! My left and sometimes right sides hurt once in a while as if I have just exhausted myself from running. It's hard to stand up straight and to breathe deeply when I have these pains because it makes the pains hurt worse.

I also have pains in my left shoulder and upper back areas that is exactly like the pains I felt right after surgery (due to gas trapped under the skin). But two weeks after surgery, I still have these pains in my shoulder/upper back area.

Both are tolerable but unpleasant...and when I get these pains, I just want to lie down and not move.

I mentioned the pain in my sides to my doctor (I described how they felt like I had been running and then got side pains) and he said it sounds like I have muscle cramps, but he didn't really offer a solution (D'oh!).

Please let me know what your doctor says about these issues! We are both in the same exact boat!

Well I spoke to my surgeon who said that he had never had anyone complain of such pains before and suggested that I go my practitioner. I went to the family doctor and she said that it was band-related and I ought to seek advice from the surgeon. I aggree that it is definately band-related but the surgeon knew nothin of it. Both suggested painkillers - I will just have to hope that it is gas and that it goes!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
