New from British Columbia

I love this forum. Everyday I check new postings. I can find the answers to any questions I have on this site. I am having VSG surgery in Victoria by Dr. Amson. The surgery is covered by our BC Medical. Because the surgery is covered it is a long wait list. I am going on my 4 th year in waiting, from my first consult appointment. I innitially was waiting for RNY but switched to VSG last summer. My surgery is Nov. 18th.

I can't wait to start my journey.

WOW Angela. You are a trooper for waiting 4 years for surgery. My hat is off to you. I almost had a fit waiting 4.5 months.

Welcome. Be sure to put your surgery on the calendar and let us know how you are doing leading up.

Angela -

WOW - 4 years - that's crazy - you are such a trooper! Welcome to VST and we will look forward to hearing more about your story and your surgery. We are so glad we've been here to answer your questions-- and we will be here after your surgery when you have other questions too!

Wow, 4 years to wait. That is incredible and we have people in Washington thinking we should emulate parts of the Canadian healthcare system. What if you wanted to self-pay? Is that allowed in the Canadian system or would you have to come to the US or Mexico? I am happy for you, your wait is almost over. Good luck with everything.

Bill

Congrats. on your date. It won't be much longer now. Looking forward to hearing all about your journey.

Judy - your ticker isn't showing up!

Congrats on working the system Angela! There is such a long wait in Canada because there just aren't many surgeons that do this surgery and very few private clinics - I know of one in Montreal that is very expensive. For bariatric surgery, because it is not 'life threatening', a wait of 3-5 years is quite common. There certainly are some flaws in our healthcare system but I certainly would not trade it for the American system as it is now! I will get off of my soapbox now... I did not choose to go through the long wait and went to Mexico as a self-pay - so glad that I did! Good luck Angela - how long will you be in the hospital?

Saying HELLO!!!:welcome:

Welcome!! glad you have a date! It's all downhill now! Long wait you went thru, but I did the same thing ( the wait ) and finnally ended up self paying........ glad you had the patience!

Hi Angela, and welcome to the forums. Your long wait is finally coming to an end, yay!
