Hi, I'm new to this so I hope I am doing it right. I will have my surgery on 11/3/09 and my surgeon says I can go back to work (I'm a Hospice nurse) in 2 weeks. From what I'm hearing I will be very tired. What experiences have you had with returning to work?

I had my surgery on 6/12/09 and was back at work on 6/19/09 -- I have a desk job and other than feeling foggy from a lack of Protein, I was fine. I was very tired - could make it through the day, but I was ready for bed shortly after getting home. That passed when I got to mushies and was able to get in more protein.

Where are you having your surgery performed? We're here for you whenever you have any questions - feel free to ask!

Hey Dancer, glad to have you join us! Like Vegas said, I think you will be fine to return after two weeks. You will be tired, but once you move to mushies, that will help a lot. Keep us posted on how things are going.

Hi Dancer, I am 12 days out and I am returning to work tomorrow. I feel full of energy and am not tired at all. You should be fine after 2 weeks.

Hi Dancer! Welcome to the VST. I was really tired the first couple of weeks, but at exactly the 2 week mark, it was like someone flipped a switch and I was back to full energy levels. It was strange but very welcome. Since then, feel great and losing weight. Keep us posted on your progress. Good luck on your journey.

I returned to work on day 13 after surgery. I work in the emergency room and did feel a bit pooped out by the end of my 10 hour shift all last week. But I made sure to stop for a little nourishment every 3 hours, just a few ounces of warm soup...and that helped a lot. This week I'm sure I'll do even better. I think everyone is different. I was glad to get back to work and think it worked out fine.

Welcome Dancer! Congratulations on your decision to have the VSG. Like others have mentioned, the first couple of weeks I found myself very tired. I didn't quite get all of my energy back at the two week mark, but think I would have been fine going back to work. Good luck with your pre-op stuff! This is a great place to be to get your questions answered.

I was ok... I can remember tho at about 3 weeks soooooo tired/weak I could hardly blow try my hair, but that passed quick! I was off work for a long time, had knee replacment and then VSG- then had to wait to see if I still had a job ( long story ) but I beleive I coulda went back in 2 weeks with no problems.

Then you get that BURST of energy!! I LOVED that-still do, so much more energy than I have had in yearssssssssssss!!

Being a nurse do you have to do a lot of patient rolls, moves, etc? You won't be able to do that right after you get back to work. Better talk to your doctor about what nursing moves you can do and what you can't. My mom is a nurse and I know she gets pooped just from moving patients around all night.

I work a desk job so going back was no problem. Just a little tired and sore.

Thanks to all of you that chimed in. I am so looking forward to getting started. I go for all my preop stuff on the 21st and the date for surgery is tenatively set for 10/3. My Surgeon is Dr.Terry Pinson at the North Mississippi medical center Bariatric Center. It is great comfort to me to see so many people from so many different states that have had such amazing stories of success. Can't wait to be one:001_smile:
