Post-Op Experience with a 2yr old at home?

Recommended Posts

I am considering having the sleeve instead of the band. I have a little supportat home between my husband and immediate family. I have a VERY ACTIVE 2 yr old and 4yr old. I was hoping to connect and share your experience with those that had little one's at home during your recovery. I guess I am wondering exactly how difficult it is to manage for a couple of weeks with no lifting.

Hi,

I have an eight-year-old boy and almost three-year-old girl and had VSG on July 28. My husband did most of the lifting work and such with the little one until he had his VSG on Aug 4 (one week after I did). My little one really likes to be held so we would just have her crawl up to us either in a chair or on the bed to snuggle with her. My doc request no lifting for two weeks and the light lifting after that until we were fully healed. I really worried about how things would go with the little one but they weren't bad at all....it's just trying to figure things out. The surgery itself isn't bad as it's done laparascopically (sp?). I had my surgery on Tuesday and was driving my oldest to summer camp on Friday. All in all this was excellent experience and would do it over again. Best of luck to you!

Hi! I had my VSG on 9.9.09 and I have a 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 yo girls at home. I hardly need to lift my 3yo anymore, so for the younger one, I just sat in a chair and had her come to me if she need a cuddle, and the same with my younger one. I got into the floor to change diapers and fed them meals on the small toddler table we have. I moved this table into the

kitchen prior to surgery so they would be used to sitting there for meals. My husband gave them baths when he got home from work for the first week, and lifted my youngest into her crib. I was fine one week after surgery to do the normal things myself, but continued to limit the lifting as much as I could. Over all, it was not a big deal and I am thrilled with my sleeve!! Godd luck to you.

I have eight kids....range from 9 months to almost 9 years. I had my surgery in Mexico on a tuesday and was back home on Sat and was back to normal routine that night! I had a little help from my husband on lifting the 2 1/2 yo but not as much as I should have...... I am fine.

It worked out great for me~

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
