Hunger Pains/Burping

Recommended Posts

I don't get starving hungry unless I've gone several hours (more than 6) without eating or drinking anything; but it is alleviated with a small amount of food - something as small as a slice of cheese.

Now the burbing issue is another matter entirely - I have been burping since day one - it used to be after every sip I took; however, that has subsided. I still burb - and we're talking "sailor-type" burbs. I asked Dr. Aceves about it and he said it should subside by 6 months out ... I'm at 5 months right now, so hoping I've only got another month of the embarrasing burbs that just jump out with no warning whatsoever or care for where I am when it decides to happen - -very ladylike I'm telling you!

I've had a little burp slip out with no warning in public occasionally too...it is embarrassing and very wierd...no warning at all.

Guess it's better than a fart though!

Tell me about it. I pass loud gas and I have no clue it's coming. I am just walking along, and out it comes. Talk about embarrassing.

I burped for the first week or so. But, it went away. I do not have acid reflux. I am not on any prilosec. I am starting to feel hunger today as a matter of fact. gurgling in tum when I eat. I hope the gherlin is not back. I had huge problems with it before surgery. Kinda like MacMadame described. Iam going to go back to my Protein Drinks one meal a day for awhile and see if that helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
