Had my surgery Thursday monring

Recommended Posts

I was discharged from the hostipal Friday afternoon. I sure am sore. Particularly the incision to the right of my waist. It hurts to move or walk. I have been taking the liquid vicodin I was given. I guess it isn't as strong as the stuff I had in the hospital. In the hospital I was able to get up and walk up and down the halls. Now walking hurts because of the incisions. How long does this take to settle down? I know walking is important so I don;t get blood clots.:cursing:

Oregon Rose - congrats on your surgery - glad it went well and you're home. Sorry to hear you are in pain - I didn't have anything like that - didn't take pain meds after day 1 and most definitely didn't come home with anything -- my incisions were a bit sore- more like sore muscles for about 1 week ... just keep doing your walking and hopefully things will begin to feel normal again, soon.

Congratulations! The pain will pass before too long and you will begin to see less of yourself!

Hi Vegas Angel. How do you post the date of surgery and the name of your surgeon?

Go into User CP and edit signature - you can add the information in there under your ticker then click preview signature and if you're happy with the way it all looks, then be sure to click on save signature before exiting.

Yes, I do too. Dr. Aceves keeps us in the hospital for 3 days. I was glad I was in case I needed anything, even though I was so bored.

I hope your pain goes away soon.

As was said to me: Of course you're sore (or tired or ornery)! You just had major abdominal surgery!

I agree that my cuts did not seem to be as sore as the muscle area underneath, particularly where they had placed the largest port area. I found trying not to focus on it, maybe working on little projects helped, as did ice packs. I was on Lortab for about four days after I returned home, but in hindsight probably could have stopped sooner. Walking was vital for me, even if it was outside and around the backyard a few times. Easy does it, but do it.

I was also released the day after my surgery, but very late in the day. The surgeon kept asking me if I was sure I wanted to go home and believe me, I did! I guess he would have let me stay another night if I'd wanted to. I was very sore, but walking wasn't a problem. I sure hope you feel better soon and do your best to keep walking!

Thanks Bob for you comment about it being the most sore around the largest port. My largest cut seems to be to the right of my navel. It is not sore right at the cut, but the whole area around it is very, very sore. In addition, my surgeon told me he bruised my liver. Maybe that is contributing to my pain.

I am sorry to disappoint you all, but I did not get to go home - just to a nearby hotel. (There is no place like home!) I get to go home on Tuesday, after my post-op check.

Hi Oregon Rose, I too am sorry you are experiencing so much discomfort. Everyone recovers differently from surgery. Hopefully, you will be feeling much better quickly.

Are you taking the same amount pain med you were taking in the hospital? I'm not sure if Vicodin is the same as Lortab or not. I think it is. My husband had quite a bit of pain after his VSG but the Lortab worked very well to control the pain. (Actually, at first in the hospital, he was on the very strong Dilaudid injections, then they moved him down to the Lortab.) He took it (the Lortab, I mean) at home too. I can't remember the dosage but it was a FULL little medicine cup, not a half. If your pain meds aren't doing enough, I think you should make sure you are taking the full dosage allowed. If this still isn't doing the job, I would suggest calling your surgeon's office. Maybe they can make a change.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
