So it is true...How yucky. Even more worrisome, read this article:

Vegetarians in Paradise/BSE in Gelatin/Gelatin and Mad Cow Disease/Gelatin History/FDA and Gelatin

I'm going to look at the FDA website to see the source document...always like to be sure of the source...

Have you noticed how often "hydrolyzed protein" is included in foods? Could from a vat of boiled cow hides. Icky Icky Icky.

Just because something sounds gross, doesn't mean it's bad for us though.

I don't necessarily think Jello is bad for us, but I do think that depending on bullets after surgery as a main source of Protein is not a good idea.

While I think the "danger" of bullets is overstated. :001_tt2: Let's put it this way, hospitals use a product called Protinex for their patients who can't eat to help them maintain their albumin levels while on IVs. This product is *all* collagen. And it works. Bullets, OTOH, have *some* whey Protein isolate in them. So they should work even better.

I've never tried them. Thank goodness I like all my Protein Drinks and I am such a chocoholic so bullets have no appeal to me.

I am going to get some of those premeire Protein drinks next time I go out of town to costco. I don't know why the first time I tried them, they were chalky and gritty. When I tried Ruthi's they were really good.

30 grams is a great way to start off the day.

Stevia is an herb so the taste is going to take some getting used to but you do eventually get used to it. I remember how disgusted I was with Diet Coke and the aftertaste but ended up loving it until I found out what Aspartame does to you body and brain....

There are other healthy sweeteners that taste great:

* Stevia - Very healthy! Can also be used for baking.

* Lo Han or Liu Han (inulin) Feeds good bacteria in intestines (very expensive!)

* Yacon – Peruvian Tuber (FOS) Syrup - Amazing therapeutic properties. The body is not able to break it down as sugar and it passes through and then promotes the good bacteria in the intestines. Tastes like a cross between honey and molasses – a good, inexpensive brand is Amazon Therapeutic (brown glass jar and red label) sells for $16 for 16 oz jar.

* Xylitol – Has antibacterial properties. You should always carry mints (look for Spry mints) or gum sweetened with this if you can’t brush after a meal. It’s being used more and more in foods and toothpastes and such! Very healthy and affordable!

* Arithratol (sp) is also antibacterial.

Xylitol is very toxic to dogs, take care.

I use stevia -- it's brand name in the States is Truvia, I think. Here in Paraguay, it's grown all over the place, so it's in powder form, liquid, you name it. For me there is no bitter aftertaste at all. I like the fact that it's natural too -- that the sweetness comes from a plant (just like sugar!). When I was in the States I was a big Splenda person, but now that I'm here, I gotta say stevia/Truvia beats it hands down :)

After us talking about Chike here, I decided to try one of my flavor samples and do a little review.

I tryed Chike banana with 1% milk and a spoon of PB. First I dipped my finger in the envelope to taste the powder and it tasted pretty good. No strangeness. No bad smell. Then I mixed with milk in a blender. tasted good... no grit or strange tastes. Then I added ice and the PB. I don't think you would need the PB but it is more Protein and was ok. It was smooth and a little thick(not TOO thick) Creamy, and there was no separation at the top or bottom of the glass. It was a little sweet... but not gross. I chose the banana sample because I thought I would like it the least... but I would drink it again. It was good and not too fake tasting. I have only tasted three kinds of protein powders so far, and this one was the best! :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
