Has anyone on this forum used Stevia for sweetener? I hate the aftertaste of other non-sugar sweeteners. Am not sure if Stevia will be any better.

I have used it. It's okay. I like whey Low better. That's my favorite.

Mac where do you get that? Is that something from a health food store?

Stevia can have a bitter taste to it.

On the Whey Low website I see that it is carried by Whole Foods in someplaces. Check out their website for more.

thanks for the tip, Mac. I like the idea that it is a more natural product.

I order mine from Express Metabolics. I get my Chike there too. They have the best Chike prices on the web.

What is chike?

It's a Protein Powder I like. The Orange Creme tastes like a Dreamsicle!

Do you see any ingredients listed on the Chike product? I can't find any on the internet. The nutritional values are given but it does not say if the Protein is from "boiled cow hides", if the sugar is fructose, if there are artificial sweeteners in it, etc etc. I would not use a product until I knew what was in it and I can't seem to find that information online.

I've been using Stevia packets and liking it pretty well. The bitter taste mentioned by another person comes from using too much. It also comes in liquid form and powder. The packets have an extender in them to make it seem like more in the packet. If you used the liquid, you'd only need a drop of two to sweeten your coffee or tea. That's how potent it is compared to sugar.

Stevia is completely natural. It comes from a plant. Some people use the actual plant leaves to sweeten their teas, etc. I have some additional info on it and other natural sweeteners, like xylitol (also natural, from a birch tree, measures like sugar, too much can cause tummy trouble), and their benefits that I can share, but you can also find all kinds of info by googling them.

Boiled cow's hide? This isn't a bullet! :confused1:

Chike is made from the same sort of things as all the other Protein shakes. Whey and/or soy Protein, Vitamins, (sometimes) amino acids, sweeteners (natural and/or artificial) and flavorings (natural and/or artificial). Some protein powders use egg for the protein as well, but that's unusual.

In particular, Chike uses whey protein and soy. (A lot just use one or the other, but I like the powders that use both.) It's sweeteners are maltodextrin, polydextrose, dextrose and sucralose. It does have "natural and artificial flavors".

It doesn't have aspartame, which is important to some people, but it does have sucralose, which some people don't like.

Sucralose is Splenda, isn't it?

mac, how much is the chike? How big is the container for that price? I want to get some and that sweetner. What other flavors do you like?

I bought some of those lean Desserts that the people on OH rave about. So far, I am not impressed. I kind of like the fudge pudding flavor if I use half Hood Carb Countdown and half Water. I think the tubs are kind of small for the price though.

I didn't like the Lean Dessert either.

I get my Chike from ExpressMetabolics.com and it's around $38-40 a tub. But I just noticed that the Chike web site is selling it for $27. Well, shoot. I just bought a bunch at the higher price too.

Yeah, Splenda is sucralose.

Yesterday I got "Erythritol" at the store. It has no calories. I think it's a sugar alcohol though so that means it will give some people gas.

I'm working on an Energy Bar recipe that calls for almost a cup of Karo Syrup and I'm looking for other things I can use instead to get the carbs and sugar down. I figure I'll use some of that and some of my whey Low and maybe some stuff that is already sweet and gooey like Peanut Butter.

Ha! Re the boiled cow's hides comment: I think that I read somewhere on this forum that Jello is made from boiled cows hides. Might have been a joke. At any rate, I don't eat it! It does sound gross, if not dangerous...BSE risk. ....STEER CLEAR of that. Ha Ha

No that is not a joke. Jello is either made from boiled cow hides or hooves. I can't remember which.

the Protein bullets are made from collagen

which is boiled cow hides.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
