Hello all!

Im seriously considering WLS and waiting for bloodwork to comeback to see if Im a candidate for VSG. I was considering the band but the doc suggested VSG ..

Im 27 years old. I've been a chubby kid and a yo yo dieter. Ive lost and regained weight way too many times to list. I currently weigh 211 and want to come down to 110 for my 5'5" frame. Strangely, I actually enjoy working out. Hate the treadmill but love to trek, kickbox, swim, weight train. food is too much of a weakness though. Im a stress eater, depressed eater, happy eater, mindless eater.. you get the picture :001_tongue: Usually I cant stick to a diet for more than a month. I'm very attached to food.. How do you deal with that?

Also, How long do you have to wait before I can start working out with the kind of intensity Im used to? I know you're supposed to start with walking.. but.. Is there an alternate to walking..? (thats the ONE form of exercise I hate to do.. )

Thankyou,

Cherry

I was told 6 weeks before any strenuous workout - I'm starting on Tuesday ... woo hoo!

Welcome to the forum! We're glad to have you.

you really can eat anything you want with

the sleeve, just not very much of it. Getting

full really fast really takes your mind off food

for hours.

You are going to have to decide how much

you really want to lose weight, because

you will still be able to eat chips and candy, etc.

I am very big into exercise. I am sure I could have gone back to weight training sooner than 6 weeks, but I was out of town

for quite awhile after surgery and didn't want to pay for another gym.

Feel free to ask as many questions as you need to.

Well, you don't have ghrelin any more so that impetus to eat is gone. It's just the mental stuff and true hunger left.

Also, How long do you have to wait before I can start working out with the kind of intensity Im used to?

I was cleared to go back to the gym at 2 weeks. I didn't feel up to anything that worked the abs until sometime between 1 and 2 months but I was biking and running well before that.

Hello and welcome! Congrats on your decision. You will be really surprised at how quickly you fill up and how seldom you are hungry anymore. It helps a great deal. As for working out, I was told I could start walking right away, but not to return to the gym until I was six weeks out.

That sounds great!

Thank you all SO much for your very prompt responses. It feels really good to have a backup in this forum. I've gained a lot of courage and confidence from the stories I've read here to go ahead with VSG

My blood work came back, I am now eligible for it and waiting for a date. (fingers crossed!)

Thanks again!

Cherry.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
