Observations from pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

A few little tidbits of observation from my pre-op diet:

  • I never realized there were so many food commercials on TV! I mean, wow. Fast food, restaurants, creamy this, sweet that. I have begun reading more than I have in a long time to avoid commercials.
  • Shopping at the grocery is not as much fun. So many candies, lovely breads, and those evil old lady sample people! "Here, sweetie, you look like you can use a sample of this!" It's like a mine field of potential disasters. Get what I need, keep the head down, and escape.
  • My breath is so bad makes me wonder if my dogs occasionally eating poop has benefits. At least they cannot smell this damn ketosis breath. Was wondering why they were pawing at their noses.
  • As I wrote to a pal, and to quote Jack Nicholson in the movie The Bucket List, "Never trust a fart." Expecting to see a polish sausage from 1997 real soon! I know, gross. But it's the truth. My body is flushing out all kinds of oddities. Probably for the best.
  • If I sleep much more part of my surgery will be mattress removal from my posterior. Just awfully run-down. But being run-down beats the caffeine/sugar/carb withdrawal headaches.

More to come! Please add more if you wish.

A few little tidbits of observation from my pre-op diet:

  • I never realized there were so many food commercials on TV! I mean, wow. Fast food, restaurants, creamy this, sweet that. I have begun reading more than I have in a long time to avoid commercials.

When I was pregnant with my second son, I ended up in the hospital on IVs only due to dehydration (flu bug) -- I couldn't watch TV or read magazines because of all of the food commercials - and that was 26 years ago -- before the Food Channel - so I feel for you Bob!

  • Shopping at the grocery is not as much fun. So many candies, lovely breads, and those evil old lady sample people! "Here, sweetie, you look like you can use a sample of this!" It's like a mine field of potential disasters. Get what I need, keep the head down, and escape.

Keep to the permiter of the grocery store - all the "BAD" items are in those center aisles - the outside is generally - produce, meat, dairy - you'll be safe(er)!

  • My breath is so bad makes me wonder if my dogs occasionally eating poop has benefits. At least they cannot smell this damn ketosis breath. Was wondering why they were pawing at their noses.

Lots of listerine - gold - it tends to kill your tastebuds - and anything else that might be lurking! And SF mints - Altoids - they're almost as bad/good as the gold Listerine!

Yes, this is a time (and following surgery too) that you want to make sure you don't make the wrong choice in trusting a fart - that's for darn sure!

  • If I sleep much more part of my surgery will be mattress removal from my posterior. Just awfully run-down. But being run-down beats the caffeine/sugar/carb withdrawal headaches.

Sounds like lack of Protein - I know all I wanted to do was sleep after surgery -- my pre-op diet had lots of Protein - afterwards, and still now, I have a difficult time getting in my protein - if I don't get enough, I just want to sleep. More to come! Please add more if you wish.

Hang in there Bob - you're doing great and in the long run, it will be worth all the suffering you're going through now!

Bob, this thread absolutely cracked me up, but it is all so true! You will survive, and it will be all worth it in the end.

Oh, how funny! Oh, how true! I needed the laugh!

I was watching TV (on Tivo) last night and had to fast forward thru all those damn food commercials. I am good ALL day until it's time for bed. That's when the cravings start.

And two more:

* Forks. What are those? Those little tines are good at mixing up goop from the bottom of my mixing jar, but that's it right now!

* People are so apologetic when they find out I am on a liquid diet. "Oh, you poor thing..." They think I am just totally and tragically unable to function. Maybe I can work this into some sympathy things, like mowing my yard, washing my car, going to the store for me...?

I'd certainly give it a shot - the answer is always NO until you ask ... they may feel sorry enough for you that they'll actually do it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
