I am being banded on May 31st... I begin my pre-op liquid diet on Monday, I have to loose 12-15 lbs. Any suggestions from all of you who have been there and done that? I need help... how did you do it? Only liquids, I know I have to after my surgery, but to think about it now makes me want to eat more... LOL!

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! I love this site! :clap2:

There's really not an easy way to get through the liquid diet....but as the days go on, it does get easier. I bought some bottles of juice at GNC called Zero carb Isopure. It has 40 g. of Protein per 20 oz. bottle, the protein helps curb the hunger. It is really best to drink half the bottle in the morning and half in the afternoon. So you get full benefit from the protein, according to the dietician. Expect to have a pretty good headache, I did. Everyone kept telling me it was caffeine withdrawals, but I don't drink caffeine. I think it was stress from me freaking out about not having food. When you think you are going to "lose it" and binge, go take a walk, or do something crafty that requires both hands so you can't eat! The weight you will lose quickly will help with the determination, and as I said it gets easier as the days go on. It is a great help to the Dr. if you follow your diet, it makes his job easier, and your recovery easier. Good Luck, LBT will be here if it seems overwhelming!!! Hang tough!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
