I was using the Atkins shakes before surgery and bought a bunch for after surgery. The only problem is that I am now super sensitive to sweet tastes and they taste too sweet for me. The same with Crystal Lite. I have to really dilute it. I put coffee in the Atkins or I can't drink it any more. Be careful what you stock up on presurgery you might not like it post surgery.

Most people report that they hate the Unjury Soup. Maybe you can make a deal with someone who has it and wants to get rid of it.

That's hysterical! I wonder why I like it??

As for having MORE of it - nah. :001_tt2: I don't love it THAT much and will never want to see it again after clears are over!

(Instead of a weight loss ticker, I'd rather get a "5 more days until I'm off clears" ticker...)

I've posted this on quite a few threads. I bought GNC's brand of unflavored Protein powder and mixed it in everything clear. I had no trouble getting the Protein in. I didn't think it changed the taste of anything I put it in.

I would like to try this but can you be more specific? Does this powder come in packets? Thanks.

My surgeon told me it was OK for me to use the Jay Robb Protein Powder I have been using pre surgery only to mix it with Water instead of milk. I tried that and it was awful so I used almond milk and yesterday and today I had blended shakes which took me almost an hour to drink. They were tolerable to the palate and to my system but I did not enjoy them as I did prior to the surgery.

I would imagine by Monday you'd be happy to even have Isopuke...:)

And I'm sure the 80 gms of Protein is definitely keeping you going.

A couple of questions! WHAT is a TPN bag?? Aren't we sent home on Clear liquids? If so, how long does that last and does that include Campbell's chicken noodle Soup with the noodles and chicken strained out and a can of Water added to the broth? Will Water or will water NOT stretch out our new tummies?

My surgery is scheduled for June 11th. I have so many questions! Thanks!!!

My surgery is scheduled for June 11th. I have so many questions! Thanks!!!

I was on TPN (total parenteral nutrtion) for over 2 weeks because I had a leak with my revision and could not have anything by mouth, no water, no ice, nothing for that time period. I went a total of 22 days with nothing by mouth.

TPN is essentially a nutrtient based Fluid that is fed by IV. I had a central line catheter in my left bicep that fed the nutrients directly to my heart.

It is comprised of all the daily nutrients and essential Vitamins I needed. It contained 1800 calories.

Normally, if no complications come up. Most patients go home on clear liquids, and slowly progress through different stages in the diet.

Ask away that's what we're here for.

I mix Isopure and unjury with everything (apple juice, propel Water, regular Water, Jello, ramen noodles broth -not the noodles, just the broth and other broths).

And sometimes I have to force feed myself! (actually, my beau is the Water and Protein drill sarg! Checking in every waking moment-- arrrggghhh!)

Even then, I am still having a tough time getting in all the liquids I can. I will only do what I can.

My clear liquid stage is the day before surgery and the day after surgery. Once I am released from hospital, I can have any liquid. Liquid only for 4 weeks.

Then to modified, pureed food for 4 weeks.

Wow, Oakley... That's an interesting way to do it. I feel like I'm "kind of" on something like that. Because of my additional issues, Dr. Aceves is having me to 10 days minimum, per phase... 10 days of clear liquids, 10 days of full liquids, 10 days of mushies, then on to "trying" regular foods. I swear this 30 days feels like it's going to do me in. I was DYING for a drink of milk yesterday, and I don't usually even like milk much, never want it. Still waiting until tomorrow for that swig of milk. LOL... It's been touch with the clears, but manageable. Hope all goes well for you!

I had my surgery at an Army hospital - they have a very detailed program for 9 months prior to surgery and 3 years following. The clear liquids only last 3-4 days until it is well tolerated. At that point, you move to full liquids and add the Protein then. During clear liquids the focus is on hydration instead of protein. I am 5 days post op and have been on full liquids for 2 days.

If anyone else is having this problem... I use the whey Protein vials at Walmart... they are fruit punch flavored and have 24 grams of protein per vial. While the taste of them alone is absolutely revolting, I mix them with sugar free cherry or grape koolaide and I can't even taste it. This is the easiest way I can think of to get my 60-80 gms of protein a day. Hope this helps!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
