I am a 34 yr female that just had a stomach stapling replaced with a VSG, after having problems with the stapling. I am still having problems with the VSG and most likely going to have a stint put in to stretch the opening. I have lost 40 lbs in 10 wks. I only needed to loose 60 lbs to start with. I am also having alot of Hair loss. Over all I am happy I made the change. :thumbup1: My surgeon is Dr Vadim Sherman from Baylor College of Medicine @ St Lukes Hospital. He is wonderful. Has a great bedside manor, his team visits you frequently in the hospital and they all take the time to listen to you needs and concerns. I have never felt rushed. Although he is young, do not let that intimdate you. I have Multiple Sclerosis and searched 40 something Dr.s till I found him. He is willing to do surgery on high risk patients.

I had a lot of Hair loss too. It just comes with the territory, especially with rapid weight loss. (And yours sounds pretty rapid to me!)

Can you avoid major hair loss if you take Biotin tablets and use Biotin Shampoo?

No. It's a shock to the body that is at issue. People swear by special shampoos, Vitamins, biotin, Protein... if you are losing your hair because you are deficient in those areas then it will help. But if it is because of weight loss then no, it isn't going to help.

Not everyone loses their hair. When I quit losing weight I quit losing hair. :thumbup:/

Biotin will help your new hair grow in nicer though.

I think it depends. I think my early Hair loss was caused by hormones and later the whole "shock of the surgery/response to rapid weight loss" hair loss kicked in. Because I'm still losing pretty close to what I was during the worst of my hair loss, but it's slowed down anyway. I think that's because I've released most of the estrogen in my fat and it's not floating around in my system any more.

Hi Mac,

I am post menopausal and have been on HRT since I was 38, now am 51. I have stopped all my meds except my asthma stuff and I have had no hot flushes. Do you think this is because I am releasing estrogen from my fat loss? I assumed that the worst of it was over.

Cheers,

Jane

It seems to really vary. We know estrogen is stored in our fat and we know it gets released when we burn up the fat. But it seems like that releasing process does different things to different people. Some get their period when they didn't used to get it. Some stop getting them for a while. Some get moody, like they have PMS.

For me, I've had the early hair loss, which may or may not be related to hormones (but that's the only explanation I can come up with) and I'm also getting irregular and having break-through bleeding. But, that could just be me entering peri-menopause. Or not.

I certainly have been moody, last Tuesday I wanted to kill some of my work colleagues!

But I have been much more laid back with my family so it could just be that work is extremely annoying.

Re breakthough bleeding when I went into the peri menopause stage I just stopped having periods for months at a time. Because I was so young I thought it was stress that was causing it and the depression. Eventually it was diagnosed and I was put on HRT.

I figured that 51 was a fair age to stop the artificial hormones. Next time I am coming back as a man though!

Hope you get to the bottom of your issues, it just takes a fairly simple blood test as I recall.

I'm due for my yearly check-up in Aug. though I might wait until Sept. (Because I'll have to do labs then.)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
