Back to Exercising

Recommended Posts

My surgeon advised no heavy lifting (> 15 pounds) for 4-6 weeks post-op. I walked post-op and then started doing some light exercising at 3 weeks. I'm now back to working out two times a week. I hate exercise but consider it a necessary evil so I do it. LOL. The good news? As the weight comes off, the workout becomes a bit easier allowing you to step it up a bit more.

Now that summer is finally here, I'm looking forward to adding swimming to the routine. I have yet to experience that "endorphin" thing. LOL.

I've always tried to be active but how much would vary depending on my job and my weight. I think the trick is to expand your ideas of what exercise is and find something fun. I figure skated for over a decade and it's not the best cardio workout or even the best for building up muscle strength, but I loved it so I actually did it and that's the most important thing!

I think the other thing is to start off slow and build up a routine. I see so many people get very gung-ho about joining the gym, going 5x a week for an hour or more at first, and the next thing you know, they are very burnt out and not going at all. I started back to the gym 1-2x a week at first, then 3-4x all for 30 min. Then for 45 min. Then 4-5x, then the next thing I knew, I was signing up for triathlons and training 7-10 hours a week! But I didn't start there.

I am sooooooo sore... planted 8 flats of flowers and trimmed shrubs but it felt great to be outside. Once the outdoor funiture is cleaned (my next project) I'll actually get to spend time out there NOT working. LOL.

I bought a Bowflex Power Pro second hand (it's circa 2004 model). but I'm having a problem with the exercises. I have the book, but it doesn't describe in detail how to set the machine up for each exercise, nor does it explain how to choose how much weight to use. I'm going to see the exercise physiologist today, and I will ask him questions. Does anybody out there have an old dvd or video tape of this machine?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
