Scope?! So frustrated

Recommended Posts

Been really down since getting another unfill and them wanted to do the scope. 18th will be my 2nd year w band and I'm still struggling. Real sad. Add to my crazy schedule and I know I'm gaining. Very frustrated. The can't seem to figure out if my menestral cycle is reason for having to get a unfil3-4 weeks out or if I have developed some kind of acid reflux. I've lost around 60-65 pounds still have 40-45 after two years. I am so down.;( and scared .

So sorry to hear about your struggles. I can completely understand your emotional and physical pain. I myself went through many issues with my band which ended up getting removed and I had the gastric sleeve done on May 1 this year. My issue was my doctor not listening to me and I know my body and knew something was wrong. I was gaining and having much pain in my port area. Too much pain. My fills were not working and I always had to go under fluoroscopy just to find the port for a fill....not cheap. I knew going into this things can happen but when your doctor is not listening to you its hard. I ended up switching doctors within the same clinic and let me tell you, what a difference. He listened to every word I said and looked me straight in the eyes when I talked and when he talked. I also struggled for two years and gained all my weight back and some. So again, I understand your frustration. What bothers me is when we gain or complain about an issue, I found my doctor would automatically blame it on me. Never looking into the band. WEll, after being very persistent and demanding (raising my voice) yep, there was a leak and basically my body was rejecting the band. Took seven months to convince him to check. IN the end it was not my fault. I also had my port replaced once because it twisted...no ones fault though. Not sure what kind of communication you have with your doctor but please be persistent and don't give up. I have to ask...how are your eating habits, getting your liquids in and exercise in... I know, sort of obvious questions but some patients do get off track when they get frustrated. I know of many patients that are getting their bands out and getting the sleeve done. I am so thankful I had that choice. My insurance paid for it and so I count my blessings everyday. Are they giving you meds for the acid reflux? And yes, glad they are doing a scope and hopefully they can find whats going on. Slippage, is it reflux or maybe something else. So this should tell the doctors something. And please, don't take my story the wrong way. I am a big believer in the band when its all working properly, I just chose the sleeve because at one point the band did work for me but my body didn't like it. So that was my next choice....I hear a lot of success stories with the band. But I can honestly say I don't miss the painful fills. I wish you well and hope you get some answers. Keep us updated....

How is the sleeve? How long are you under? How invasive was that? I just can't image doing everything all over and paying again:( thanks for your input;)

Mis73, when I get a fill I'm fine for 3-4 weeks then somehow i need a unfill and can't get anything down. I think it's my period cycles. They think I may have a sensitive stomach. Since no one is sure they want to do a scope.

I actually have a really sensitive stomach, too. I totally understand

Have you tried really small fills? My last fill was only .1cc and it was perfect. You'd be shocked what a huge difference even a really small fill can make when you have a sensitive tummy.

I normally just ask is there a lot in there. They normally don't say until the unfills

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
