Hi Everyone,

I am new to this and although I am enjoying reading the many postings, I am finding that I am really getting nervous about my upcoming surgery and how worth it it is going to be! I have a surgery date scheduled for June 9, 2006. I'm worried that I will have a huge struggle with this and in the end fail.

Does anyone know how to access one of those ticker thingies that you can use to record start weights etc.?

Hi Jen,

I was banded 8 days after you and have a first fill scheduled for 5/25. You said that you were filled today and, from what I have read, feeling restricted is what fuels the weight loss. Have you noticed that you feel full with less food intake yet? Hang in there, sooner or later you'll hit the right level of fill and lose more consistently. I can't wait to feel even a little restriction.

Dont be nervous, everything will work out and it will all be worth it in the end.Even though Im losing a little bit here and there, I would do it all over again.Believe me you will be happy with the results eventually. You know being on here and being able to talk to people that have been through the same experiences helps me so very much.Just remember everybody is different. And know you will get a whole lot of encouragment from the people that visit this sight.Good luck!!!!:gluck: Jennifer

It is VERY easy to get frustrated and discouraged about not losing fast enough. We have to remember though that it usually takes bandsters 3-5 fills before we have proper restriction. That is when the fast losing usually takes place. Some people *(very few...definitely not me!!LOL..) can lose w/out a fill or with only one. I was banded on March 10th and have struggled to lose anything in the past month. My first fill didn't do anything for me, even though I was filled half-way up with 2ccs in my 4cc band. So I am trying to remain positve and patient. Patience is the one thing that we have to remember. Hang in there! From what I hear, after you reach your sweet spot it all becomes worth it! I have my 2nd fill tomorrow and am hoping for the best.

Jennifer, thank you so much for your very kind words. As time goes on, I'm so scared. I don't think that I will be able to do it. I'm too wrapped up in the clauses about death and possible damage etc. that could happen, and then I'm reading about having this 'golf ball" thingy happen and fills not allowing any food in and spitting up and oh my gosh...I just want to be normal again and look great doing it. I think this waiting period is going to blow up into a full blown panic/anxiety attack. Congrats to you though for going through it and losing the weight-that must feel terrific!

I am on clear fluids for 3 weeks!!! YUK, like everyone is saying it will payoff, thats what I keep telling myself especially when I want to eat real food!!!

Hi I'm new to this site. Still trying to figure out where to leave my first message. I got my band last friday in Tiajuana with Dr. Ortiz. Great experience. My stomach is growling. Can you really only handle 1/2 cup of liquids at a time?? I think I could handle much more than that. Haven't lost a pound but, not discouraged because it's only been 4 days and I still feel "puffy" from the Anesthesia?? Any Advice?? By the way, sounds like you all are a good support group. Happy to be here. Julia

Julia,

You'll be "puffy" for a few weeks and you'll see the scale move once the edema subsides. Make sure you get in the required Protein for optimal healing and keep drinking the Water. Since you have no fill, you don't have to worry about only drinking 4 oz at once. Just don't gulp it down.

:hungry: I was banded on May 25 & have lost 11 pounds. I wish I had lost more but know that 11 pounds in 11 days is pretty good. I am off the Clear Liquids & the weight is not coming off as fast! I have to keep my head up & realize that I am going to have to eat real food again someday & I then will lose weight slower. Right now I am having to fight the urge to eat solid food instead of drinking those protien shakes...its getting pretty hard. I admit I have cheated a few times when with friends...mainly so they would not know I had surgery. Has anyone else cheated on their restricted diet? If so, did it hurt your weight loss or the band?:hungry:

Hello!!

Well I cheated once and regreted it big time, Had some wicked chest pain like a bowling ball was on my chest and then it came right back up so I learned my lesson on that one. The Protein shakes are rough I think, can't wait to start eating solids again I have to wait 3 wks from surgery date so next monday I am clear.

Good Luck!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
