Can't find a thread about it

I have been searching but can't seem to find a post about the swelling. How long does it take for the swelling to go down?

I am only 5 days post-op and have already lost 7lb and this is showing in my face. I dont expect that small amount to show anywhere else but my stomach is really hard and obviously still swollen.

How long did everyone experience the swelling?

I have seen on here that the first 4-6 weeks is the healing phase. Each day gets better, but everyone heals at different rates. I think we should expect to be swollen for at least 3 weeks. You are on liquids I am assuming and then will move to mushies. Just follow your doctor's orders. This is the time to heal, not necessarily lose weight.

Good luck

I had the pregnancy look and horrible ankle swelling during my liquid phase because of all the Soups. The answer to both was Water and time. The belly started to dissipate in the second week for me. The only way I was able to get rid of my puffiness was to drink obscene amounts of water. It took awhile and was annoying, but was a short phase overall.

Wait until the hair starts falling... Whew! Welcome to the realm of the banded!

Take care and heal quick!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
