Thoughts and Questions

Okay so I understand the no drinking with your meals, or at least I thought I did. What about Soup? That is a liquid with food. Also what about fizzy drinks, I understand why not in fact I am not a soda drinker so it is no big deal to me. At least, I thought! I suffer from Migraine headaches and all my life I have taken Alka Seltzer. Can you take that? Crazy I know but that is what happens if you think too hard on things. Thank you in advance for the feed back.

Your nutritionist knows best....but since you asked here is my non-official answer...

We are not supposed to eat a lot of Soup because it is a slider food and does not allow the band to do it's job. That is not saying you can't eat soup on occasion, but it shouldn't be made a habit since it will allow for more calories to go through before you start feeling your "I'm done" signals.

Carbonation is discouraged but some people do continue to drink pop and are able to tolerate it. There is not enough information as far as I know as to complications caused specifially by carbonation alone. In that case, if you are able to tolerate the Alka Seltzer and it is only seldom, I'm guessing your surgical center will give you a pass but only they can tell you for sure.

Good luck =)

Hmmmm....doesn't Alka Seltzer contain asprine? Asprine is on the "no" list for bandster, due to stomach irritation. But check with your MD; periodic use might be ok.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
