I took off 10 days and that was plenty for me.

recovery time is very individualized. I was off for three days but worked from home for the remainder of that week and the following week. I was very fortunate to have an understanding manager who allowed me to work remotely. After two weeks out of the office, I was fine and able to go back no problem.

It depends on how your react to the anaesthetic as well as your tolerance to the pain and gas post op. I always have a fuzzy brain for about a week after a general. It really is a personal thing but give yourself plenty of time and don't rush back.

I had surgery on Thursday and I plan to return to work on Monday. I am uncomfortable sitting upright. Standing or lying is better. I sit at a desk all day so I am not sure how I will get thru the day.

I really don't want to take more time off so I hope I feel better by Monday morning.

I am a private nurse and take full care of a handicapped adult and I have taken 1 week off. I was banded Tuesday and will go back to work next Wednesday. But the doctor has made it clear that I am not to lift more than 10 pounds and to remember to take in the proper fluids. It just depends on the person and the job.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
