I was very sick the day of my surgery ... they eventually brought me a phenegran suppository.. but until I got that I was fighting throwing up... it was a horrible feeling... make sure you tell your anesthesiologist. I thought I had told mine but apparently they did not give me anything during surgery...

like others said, they can give you meds to help with this

my dr said they gave me some when i went to sleep plus those nifty/sexy behind the ear band aid

like things to help.....and some dissolve on tongue things that i carry with me every where.to my understanding, vomiting/throwing up is to be avoided at all costs....granted sometimes people get sick but best not to if you can..........talk/discuss with the doctor and let them advise you

Wow thanks for the reminders/warnings. I am recalling that I threw up over and over again after I had my gal bladder removed because of the anesthesia. My surgery is very soon and I will tell them for sure! The thought really did not cross my mind until I read this! :o

I had the same prob with anesthesia. They gave me Reglan (anti nausea med) and scopolamine patch (behind the ear bandaid) before surgery. They also had some Benadryl ordered for after surgery (helps with nausea, crazy huh). It worked a charm NO vomiting from me. Those scopolamine Patches also are good for 3 days, so I left mine on. I also got zofran (pills that dissolve on tongue) for home. Just tell the anesthesiologist, they'll get you situated and comfy. Good luck

Tell your doctors, the nurses and the anesthesia team that you have had bad experiences with the anesthesia--tell them many times as well as they should write it on your chart. I was so naseaus when they wheeled me from room to room (I have vertigo)...then again after the swallow study so the nurses game me iv compazine.

They also gave me pepcid via iv to help settle my stomach. The nurses and docs were right on top of how I was feeling as they too don't want you to vomit...trust me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
