I was so excited to have the lap band and had no qualms about the surgery. I figured I would finally be thin!. HA! First, I mad e some mistakes which I own. I didn't go to the adjustments after the first 4 or 5. I felt like I was just number 10020. Having "Lurch" call my name and then have some one who didn't even look me in the eyes talk to me about "how you doin?" Then, go through the cup thing. I couldn't go back (each way was almost 45 minutes for a 5 minute check). Next, I couldn't give up the soda. OK I am hooked and can't get off. Finally, I was basically starving--living on liquids and vomiting anything larger than an M&M. so I eat (ate) ice cream. A couple of months ago I called to ask if I could visit the dr in charge of the practice -- "NO" Today I called to get help after at least 4 months on my own. "NO" (Insurance has to start all over again). Anyone relate? What do I do now? I feel like I am playing a table game (old style) Go back to start. . . . meanwhile I am so depressed!

i am reading all the things you know is wrong but continue to do it..(drinking soda, eating soft fat calorie foods/liquids because you are obviously way too tight) and you seem to be doing everything possible to not loose weight.. ..you need to go back to the dr, (as its vital to stay on touch with your dr), and start eating better quality foods as by what you are not eating is what made us need wls in the first place..ice cream does NOTHING...i started at well over 300+ so i know where you be coming from

eat your allotted amount of food, drink alot, focus on Protein, veggies and fruit and exercise ....having wls to be (thin) is the wrong way to think.......it is about having better health....

Is there a way you can see another doctor? It sounds as though your band may be too tight. But without seeing someone, you cannot get it taken care of. When a band is too tight and we cannot eat solids, we go to sliders like ice cream out of desperation to get something down.

As to the insurance thing? Do you mean that they have to start a new request for you to be seen? That is how it is for me. I need a referral from my primary doc to see my surgeon each and every stinking time. It is a pain, but it is their job.

To not help you deal with it seems somehow negligent.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
