Odd Fill....

Recommended Posts

I went on the 9th for a fill. I have recently switched to a different doctor that is about 2 hours closer to my home. Purely for convenience. Originally I had Dr. Ken Hollis from Houston (True Results) but he doesn't do the fills himself. I was getting my fills by his PA's. Here is where it gets weird, I switched to Dr Speigle in Port Neches and when he went to check how much Fluid I had in my band he stated there was only 2.5 cc's. At the other office they said I had over 4. They said the band looked fine after I did a barium swallow so it hasn't slipped and when I asked Dr. Speigle if I should be concerned and could it be a leak he said no not to be that he use to run True Results and that the PA's do fills there and the amount they fill is off because they do it different. Anybody else run into something like that?

I'm sorry but that makes no sense. As an RN, dosages are standardized. It would be different if they filled to resistance and did not record volume input (which I don't think anyone does), but the fact they recorded 4ccs means 4ccs went in.

A MD, PA, or RN are trained and perform the same.

Ask him to clarify what 'different' means

Sounds weird! I used to go to True Results in San Antonio, TX and their PAs did my fills. When I moved to Germany, the local doctor measured the amount of Fluid in my lapband before a fill, and it was identical to what True Results PA told me. Sorry that I don't have a good answer for you.

Hazel I am by no means a healthcare professional. I might have misunderstood him.

I go back the beginning of Oct. If there is still 2.50 in there then I think someone counted wrong LOL.

We'll see. :)

I will add though that this is the most restriction I have ever felt with a fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
