Don't be afraid to get a tiny unfill if you need one!!!!

Public Service Announcement :-)

Just in case anyone else out there is uncomfortable, yet fears getting a small unfill, I wanted to share how absolutely AMAZING I feel now that I got .2 taken out of the band!!!!

I've been having great weight loss, so I wanted to stay super tight, but I was also having a bunch of annoying symptoms. Heartburn when I'd never had it before. Totally unable to drink anything cold in the morning. Not able to drink more than a tiny sip at a time. Back ache after eating. etc...

Anyway, went to the doc for an unfill and now feel UNBELIEVABLE... I didn't realize that I'd end up feeling so good, or I would have done this a while ago... Every symptom went away immediately, and oddly, I'm actually less hungry between meals than I was before.

So if you suspect you might be a little too tight, don't feel like you have to tough it out or you won't lose weight.

I totally agree! Having had the band for almost 8 years, many people get addicted to saline like a drug!

Some will not let go of any saline, if the scale is moving in the right direction, until it is WAY to late and they have irreversible band damage either to their esophagus or pouch, which causes horrible reflux and often band removal.

It should never hurt to have a band, I know sometimes it can be annoying and tricky to find the green zone without being too tight, but you have to ease up on restriction and once you get near the green zone, the subsequent fills should be very small like 0.1 and never a big fill.

Funny you posted this today. I just got off the phone with my surgeons office. I asked them if its normal that I can't drink my coffee in the morning. They said yes! I get stuck every flipping time I try to eat as well. I'm miserable with the band. I've decided to get a very small .1 unfill tomorrow. I can't live this way! Hopefully I'll love my band tomorrow.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
